all good til the bolts bend or break!
i did that several times and gave up, was running out of spare bolts and patience lol

My bolt head is roundedWill I do any damage if I belt an undersized socket onto it then weld it to the bolt head? ie. will heat on rubber crank seals wreck them. I am confident I can find enough force to crack the bolt if I can get the socket to stay on. I have another bolt to go on so im not fussed if this one gets wrecked. Engine is out of car and sump is off. I am using a hammer handle to jam the crank.
its a bolt not a nut.
i would replace the seals after welding there, in fact i personally would not weld it at all.
.
There is no substitute for PUBIC inches
Never late in an x8
i made one typo i meant to weld a nut to the bolt on the crank. You shouldn't worry about the mainseal if you weld it quick on high amps.
ew bit late now. I have welded it on there. In the process of putting it back in the car. Im putting it back in the car so that the mounts hold it still while I get some leverage on it. If it spews oil out of the front seal when I start it then I will weep.
If you welded it quick on high amps you have nothing to worry about, even if it did warm up a little i doubt it would get past 80 degrees C.
How much was a new bolt worth essaysixtythree?
Most likely yes, I will spew. I was thinking that the seals should be able to take a fair bit of heat. Combustion chambers reach around 400 C I think and a fair bit of that would transfer to the block and crank. But a welding arc is around 3000C minimum I think so maybe I will be weeping more than spewing.
Anyway I got it off. Bit of extra pipe and it put up no resistance.![]()
Casey I had a spare block with bolt already removed. So it was free.
knocked this up last weekend
pretty much the same as requiem's only 40x40x5 angle
