Default doors jammed shut, can get it open!!! CUT THE DOOR AND STILL NO LUCK!

    hey giys,

the drivers door is jammed shut on my crown coupe, has been pretty much since i bought it

now, ive have a good go at jaming hooks/wire down the door to try and hook/push bits to get the damn thing open.....with no luck,

i cant get the door trim off as the it gets sealed in once the door is closed,

and atm my options are looking like, fucking the door trim or cutting a hole in the door skin, NEITHER I WANT TO DO!

can anyone recomend anyone, anything to get the thing open?

    cheers, Blake

it is not just sagging hinges is it? I once had a 260c Nissan coupe as a paddock basher and it got to the stage that the door would not open without me laying the shoulder into it each time I wanted to exit...

try someone in the car using the inside handle, and someone outside doing the same whilst lifting the door also..
If all else fails, try taking the front guard off and removing both hinges (if possible) and you may be able to get the door far enough away from the body to remove the inner trim and trigger the latch.... (obviously being very careful of paint work etc ... and having someone to hold the door if it releases).

    good luck.

Yeah do the above, but have the person on the inside jam the handle open and kick the shit out of it from the inside, while you pull.

the problem being boys is that doors/trims for a crown coupe are not redily available from the local grocery store

the hinges were fine, door wasnt sagged at all from memory,

Sucks about the trim being stuck in the door then..

maybe slice then end off witha stanley knife and pull the trim off and get the edge fixed later if ALL else fails..

Have you taken taken the Bailey channel off when trying this? Gives you a heap more room to play, and to see what's going on too. Could get a spray nozzle for WD40/Inox/whatever and blast the crap out of the linkages with penetrant (if things are just stuck that is, not broken)

Hiro, yeah bailey trim is shifted outa the way, got plenty of room to see and hook things, just not enuf for a hand or hammer

Rob,......i'll look into that idea......i'll have to see if theres enuf room behind the rear trims,

My experiences with opening sticky/stuck doors:

1: lubricate the exterior door handle, to make sure it returns to it's resting position - some door handles won't activate the relaese unless in their resting position.
2: follow the rods - exterior door handle, interior door handle, locking snib, ..., you'll usually find the problems here - broken tangs, brittle plastic clips, bent rods,...
3: radiator screwdrivers - are fantastic for pushing tangs etal from outside the door (through the window slot) that rods normally do.
4: try every combination of exterior and interior door handle, and exterior and interior lock - some designers are truely fucked in the head and opening a door outside common conventions requires you to think outside the square.

I dont know how the hinges are setup on the crowns, but if it's possible to get to the hinge bolts via wheelarch or behind the front guard, loosen those and see if taking pressure off the hinged end will allow the door catch to release.

Another possibility is the door may have too much outward (opening) pressure too especially if the door jam rubbers are new and thick, so try pushing/nudging the door closed with your knee whilst pulling on the handle.

One method i have used in the past is to remove the hinge bolts and get the door open (suicide style) just enough to remove the weather sealing on the body and get a fine hacksaw blade at the clasp. Hacksaw through that and its home free baby.

is there some interior trim that can be unscrewed, ie like around the latch area and the door puller handle? there are usually some nice sized holes behind these and you might be able to reach in through one of these holes to get a grasp of a rod or something and yank.
