Can you pull the rear trim off in the back and get at the 2 or 3 screw/bolts holding the striker on?

Drill/maim/destroy the screws/bolts from inside the rear and the door should open with the striker attached

Mate you have done all the hard work, let your panel beater sort it out from here. You just have to see what banged up buckets they have to get open, and you know they are the right guys to sort this problem for you.

    cheers Chuck.

Had my head up uder the wheel well last night and saw the door hinges and thought of you

Is it the striker or the higes that preventing it opening ?

I think pretty well everyone has given the good ideas.

I am sure you should be able to pull of the panels trims without dmaging them, sure you may need new fasteners but they will be consealed anyway.

Otherwise get some timber and brace up the the door frame on the opposite door to the one thats stuck, get something to distribute the load over the stuck door then get another bit of timber between each door (ie across the car) long enough to bridge the gap. Then get a screw jack or a little hydraulic and start turning / pumping until there is a fair bit of pressure then try releasing the handle of give it some love taps with a rubber mallet while under pressure while the latch is up. Kepp winding / pumping / whacking until it pops open

You worked this out yet? The door on the rolla stoped unlocking/opening now too! So i gotta do the old dukes of hazard through the window effort, or the old slidy cross the passenger seaty trick!

Im already over it 1 shifter/handbrake up the ass was enough...

Bumping this up because I had the same problem on the weekend.

My 91 Corolla had the passenger front door stuck shut. It was locked, and you coulnd't physically pull the lock up enough to allow the handles to operate and open the door. The lock is on the top of the door at the catch end. Neither the key or the central locking would pop the lock up either.

Thinking it was maybe a jammed solenoid (electrical short) I disconnected the battery without any luck. Plyers and my almighty strength in reefing the lock up were unsuccessful also.

Ended up (me and a mate) prying the door skin up enough to pop it over the lock, and off the door. It could then be pulled out so your hand could get into the door itself. Smashed WD40 all over the catch, and all moving bits and this was enough to fix it.

Had same issue with my ae92.

I had to use a sequence of events to unlock the door.

I had to use the key, to first lock the door, and then time it in a way, that i would lift the handle as locking it a 2nd time, and then most times it would unlock.
I couldnt pause as i came from the locked position to the unlock position, and the handle had to be in at the same time as the key was in the neutral position. So it was like a very carefully timed process.

It unlocked it 9/10 times. Even if i accidently locked the door from inside the car (with my arm or somethign) i'd reach out the window, and keep trying until it worked. (alot harder to get timing right) and it would work.

I think its something wearing out, and then over throwing when locking, thus getting stuck when trying to unlock (it was maybe pulling in the wrong rotation or something?

    Cheers,

There is an L shaped metal piece that pivots, disengaging/engaging the handles - this was seized.

In hindsight I probably should have squirted WD40 down the top of the door as my first attempt.

However, I still managed to do it without damaging anything at all.
