I have a grande though. I wonder if the grande vs glx is where the problem begins
ill tell you what...
ill go and measure mine up and you can compare?

It seems that most people have got their shit sorted but in case it's still a bit unclear....
Until recently, I had a single-DIN Sony stereo in my GLX (i have double-DIN now) and to fill the single-DIN gap i just went to Toyota and bought a pocket for like $30 or something. It bolted straight in and there was no gap. Perfect fit. I think it may have been from a Camry but i don't think it matters since DIN is a standard size.
To replace the stereo buttons i bought a GL Cressida panel the same as the one Andrew_mx83 posted a pic of. It bolts in exactly as the original button panel used to. There's no fitment issues at all for the GLX at least. You're right, that is the only bit that doesn't fit perfectly. I cut out all the wiring for those plugs but it could be just moved if you don't like removing stuff. I'm never going back to the standard radio so i didn't worry about those plugs disappearing.
Just for reference... the hazard lights button needs to be plugged in for the indicators to function. So if you're planning on modifying your button panel and plan to drive your car before it's completed then you probably need to get yourself a spare button.

slim, i am confused now...
i thought cuzzo was talking about the GL pocket/flap with the hazard light switch... not the DIN space.
i plan on getting pop-out cup holders for there. i brought a used cup holder thing, but its not a perfect DIN size, its a bit wide and i dont feel like chopping away at those metal brackets.
I believe Cuzzo is talking about this thread where the pocket that twiztd picked up from Japan didnt fit his MX83, with the difference found to be in the stereo surround, which would need to be replaced or modified to suit.
ae71 - Slim is talking about both filling in the gap left by installing a single-din stereo and the only other issue found by installing the pocket in place of the stereo controls. Because most people source their pockets from a ADM GL, then there are no other fitment issues outlined in the above thread.
Cuzzo was... But i thought i'd explain what i did for the other hole as well since that is no-doubt another issue when the stereo is replaced. I meant to clarify things rather than confuse them.
edit:
I was a bit slow posting. Thanks big_zop. And Jeebus! I never realised there was fitment issues with JDM pockets! I hadn't seen that TC.net thread before.

Ok we all have it now. To fill a hole insert a XL sized man stick. Which can only be found on members of the toyota community that dont own mr2's or st162 celicas.
Sweet.
Wheres a pocket i can have?
ae71... Before i got my little pocket flap doovie from the GL i modified the standard button panel from my GLX. I cut out the buttons, filled the holes with bog and smoothed it over.
To match it to the rest of the dash i painted it with satin black paint. To get the slightly textured look i held the can a fair way from the surface i was painting. That way the paint partially dries before it hits the surface and sticks there as tiny little bumps. Normally i'll do a proper coat to cover the panel and then one of the faraway coats to finish it off. The little half-dry paint specs stick to the first coat.
edit: I just found an old pic of my panel... http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...39_12_full.jpg
Don't judge me on the LED lights behind it. It was a long time ago when i did it.
Anyhow... if you do go down that route, be aware that it may crack in summer. When the car got really hot in summer i found that the once smooth panel cracked where the bog and the plastic met. They must expand at different rates when heated. It wasn't proper cracking, just a visible outline of the filled holes.

thanks for the texturing tip slim!
not sure where im going to put my turbo timer in yet, thought about trying to build it into the dash, perhaps in the bit where these buttons are that are no longer needed. i never got the standard headunit/s if they where CD type i prob would have just kept them.
have to find some way of being a bit more stealthy with a boost meter too.. perhaps a digital one would be a bit tidier. oh well will sort something, thats fairly low priority tho![]()
