dunno if these pics are of any use to anyone, but this is a factory v6 manual 1mz in a 2003 camry, starter position still isent any use and the bell-housing is integral to the gearbox

Whats the thoughts on using a 6sp from an altezza rs200 with beams 3s? Bellhousing should bolt up. Need to fab mounts for starter though.

The 1MZ came out of the vienta last night... We'll be starting fabrication on the bellhousing hopefully some time next week after I've done all the necessary measuring...

would be cool but i think a w series would be more than sufficent in 99% of cases

what starter motor will you be using, will it be positioned on the gearbox side of the motor like standard or will be be on the engine side, very keen to see some progress and get a 1m into the '40!

    Cut up the sump tonight...
I had to remove a reasonable amount from the rear to get the engine back as far as I wanted.. I did get a bit carried away and removed from the middle a bit too much than necessary (measure twice cut once). The extremities are correct but as the xmember is bent in shape I could have retained another 25mm or so through the middle area.

I also cut it so the base is now flat.

A lot of filling in to do!

Unfortuantely this has left the capacity too little.. Around 4 litres.. So i'll have to add some capacity back in with wings. I don't want to go any deeper as it already hangs under the xmember.

Yeah KE70 xmember.. If I had of moved engine forward more you could probably get away with no cutting to xmember clearance.. But I want it far back as possible..

may not be a drama with the '40 crossmember then, might have to go around and measure up the mothers car and see

6 spd would be cool on the back of the V6.
As you've said though, I'd be pretty sure that the starter position, whilst facing the correct direction for you, would be in the wrong place.
Looks like GTs option would be the best.

I got a tracing of a 2GR block's bellhousing today. Aiming to get it scanned in & then a CAD drawing done of it. I think starter position for a RWD would be even worst headache than the MZ

Out of curiousity, is the AE71 crossmember different? I know you need to change them if you want to put a 4A into a KE70.

They're identical except for where the mount bolts to.

The 3Y and 2S bellhousings that you guys are/intend to use.... how deep are they? i did some measurements after work today . with a 6201 bearing (turns out to be same as 1JZ/7M list goes on) slapped into the 1MZ crank as a spigot support and a W58 in its natural position once installed i get a measurement of ~160mm depth for a bellhousing to be correct. I have had a look at the starter motor issue aswell and have an idea which hopefully will come fruitful. its lucky that we have like 5 MZ motors in various stages on assembly and almost every random bit from most popular toyo's to mess about with haha

edit: tristan and I have been discussing getting ali flanges for the sump laser cut possibly which could be done in a batch so if anybody is keen chime in. I think it would be good to be able to supply them as a flat plate or maybe just a plate with enough of a hole to run a very forward sump (like joel's) and people can fab up a box for a sump to suit their needs.

I should have my hands on a Y series bellhousing this weekend so can take some measurements.
