FYI to save you from looking, the 5VZ-FE from a Prado has a 4WD sump, so its about 2 feet deep.
Not exactly much use. I'm 99% sure its all steel though.
If the engine pictured above is a JDM model that may explain the lack of EGR. I know with the 2JZ it was only the export models which had EGR.

I had a play tonight. Few things of interest.
The erg plate can be blanked off as GT suggested there is only a coolant gallery behind it. The bolt protruding a the bottom seems to be a valve or drain of some sort. This has to be removed and flat plate there to allow starter to hug block enough.
I cant see any problem with removing materal for starter assuming GTs ring puts it where i think it should.
Sump is going to be a pain not only that its not flat it also does not allow engine to sit back enough without hitting the xmember. So the tin section is going to have to be hacked up at the back and wings added to get volume back into it.
Plenum sits too high cut n shut wont work.
Factory exhaust manifolds maybe passenger side could work but driver gets in way of steering.
I thInk thats about it. Oh yeah as we already know 3vze flywheel fits well.
Next job is to cut up sump so i can get engine sitting where i want it to sit.
Cheers
joel
snip snip.. this i believe is where i will cut.

There were 4wd auto versions of the Camry (Gracia I think) available in Japan.
The pink spots look very similar to the spots on my 3S where the end of the transfer case bolts back up to the block, so should be able to handle some weight.
It's been a while, but didn't the 1MZ have "conventional" engine mounts like a RWD sitting on a subframe? I distinctly remember that the donor car I was checking out didn't have the mounts on the side of the bellhousing like my 3S & 2C did.
The passenger side is very conventional looking mount (engine side anyway)..
Wow looks like some people are having progress. I didnt get further than looking at boxes and engines at the local wrecker. I put it into the too hard basket for the moment.
I will defiantly look into it for the future (especially if you guys do the hard pioneering work)
Past - 3 RA23's 1 TA22 - Hairdresser mobiles
Present - Red 4age KE70 - Sideways shopping trolly
Future - White KE70 - Grandma shopping trolly
Tonights efforts..
The sump is going to be the hardest bit I believe. As the bottom half tin section wants to hang over the xmember to a degree and practically sit on it leaving very little room to work with.
I can either get very creative with the sump or I am thinking it may be easier to hack into the xmember.. How much strength do you require through the centre of the xmember? Can I cut into it and box it in or weld a bar through it maybe?
If I could cut into the xmember a bit, and modify the sump a bit it'd come together nicely.. But to stickly modify the sump is going to be a shit.
The engine mount that came factory on the passenger side lines up very nicely with the xmember. I have around 9cm under it to play with.. I am thinking the whiteline commodore ls1 vt mounts maybe work well.
Have to fab something for the other side.
Inlet manifold then is the only other challenge but i'll get to that once the engine is mounted and sump done.

Fuck that looks great.![]()
PS. Ring posted out today.
Would it be too much effort to make a custom sump from scratch? I know it would be nice to find something close and just make it fit, but sometimes it is nice to spend a few xtra dollars and make something that just WORKS!
you can make it fit to suit, make it whatever volume you want, blah blah blah.
Or fit a flat plate and dry sump![]()
+1 for the dry sump and have it sitting superlow.
The sump was going to be the big headfuck for me. My plan was to drop one in the MX22 but the sump just so didn't work. Would have to modify the corset and make a new pan. The 3VZFE however fits like a glove - a little bit of "gentle persuasion" to the tin sump and it was in.
Happy to get measurements if it helps.
I reckon the corset will be ok, the pan is the shit.
Measurements would be good![]()
I seem to remember reading something about modified crossmembers being near impossible to be engineered too, so modified sump sounds like a much better option if you're planning on this being a legit street car.
