ok iscv is now off... what do i clean?![]()
the oxygen sensor won't make a dick of difference except on light cruise when it drops into closed loop..
chris: somedays i do.. others.. well.. lets call those most days
ok iscv is now off... what do i clean?![]()
well i have it off, now i read the thread on iscv cleaning and it shows getting the black plastic solenoid thing off... is this possible in the 1js? if so how? i see now bolts or screws and i don't won't to force it off unless my "peers" tell me to lol!
interesting to note, on the pipe coming out of the iscv there was a 20mm bolt lodged in there... surely that isn't standardwonder what is going to happen once i get it back together?
ok i have got a screwdriver rapped in an RP7 soaked cloth and gently cleaned it as best as i could, it now looks shiny compared to the "blacker than 21 kamahls" that it was before, i am going to throw it back in and see what happens minus the enigma bolt
ok the car started revved to about 3000 than stopped, when i was looking at the iscv it didn't look like it was sealing, should there be movement in the bottom "bell" piece? should i be able to see daylight through it? if yes to question one and no to question two then my iscv is fubard.
when it tries to start it makes a whistlying noise similar to if you left an intake pipe off, you can hear the air whistling through if that makes sense....
as soon as i get a response i will be either pulling it back off or calling a wrecker or both
cheers

Hmmm never got a call last night
I am hopefully up putting in a gearbox and clutch friday/saturday so i should be able to have a look. Although i still have to see if it is happening. Something funny is happening, I would like to sit down and have a good look at the piping and wires in the bay and see if i can't find anything. sounds like something is loose/missing. I never checked the new motor like i did for the old so they may have not plugged something in. Fingers crossed eh?
Noisy Diff and Gearbox Club of Pine Riversand you thought your car was loudThe Soarer brought to you by the letter TT
hello gavin, yes mate i would have loved to call you but i was working on the gold coast and trying to meet up with lew in between.
would be great for you to go over the car and have a look at your lovely wiring job and make sure no monkey has mucked anything up.
will try and call you tonight although i will be working in brisbane tonight, so maybe it would be best for you to call me? between 8 and 9 hey?
cheers

I'd check your throttle is closed..
if the ISCV was blocked, then they must have opened the throttle to get it to idle.
which would explain why it was idling high once it got warm... looks like there might be two separate symptoms..
ok how do i check that mate? are you talking about the tps? i am too much of a n00b to operate of vague descriptions sorry![]()
there should be a throttle stop with an adjustment screw in it, this is what sets the base opening on the throttle butterfly, allowing air through at idle. it will be on one side of the butterfly, if you crank the throttle open by hand, you should see it, and one of the pieces on the guide will make contact with it when you close the throttle.
I suspect that screw is wound in much further than it needs to be, back it out to close the throttle a bit.
i don't know how to tell if your iscv is stuffed or not though..
basicly the engine needs a certain amount of air to idle, and it needs slightly more when its cold to idle (this is metered by the iscv) the hot idle (without air con or thermo fans running and at full temp) is generally adjusted by the grub screw on the throttle stop, if the knobs that wired the car didn't get the iscv working properly, then it wouldn't idle cold without winding that screw in. and if the iscv was blocked with a bolt, then its most definately been wound in.
rightio, i know the screw you are talking about i have tried playing with it before, i will definitely get out there now and wind the little f*cker totally out if i have to lol! see what happens and cheers

Matt said that the previous mechanics put that bolt in there to stop it idling too high so it does sound like the TB has been cracked open a bit. I thought you said it was out now though.
Get that TB back to where it should be, get the bolt out of ISCV. Start her up.
yeah well they told me that they took one out, but that was on the other side near the turbos remember? you couldn't believe they tried to adjust idle from over there.... well there must have been two of the pricks lol
totally out it will probably want to not run hot.. or idle too low..maybe not even idle when cold.. don't panic if that happens

rightio... still doesn't explain why it idled fine although HIGH for 4 weeks then when we changed ecus it killed it...![]()
