Good to hear you made some progress.
What boost is it reading when it cuts out?
Does it cut out at same RPM in any gear?
Is your O2 sensor hooked up and ok?
well it doesn't light up the check engine light sorry gav, it free revs beautifully as well, i have organised to meet up with Mr Chris Davey tomorrow night so that he can see in person what the hell my p. o. s. is doing. but thanks for the input mate
cheers

same revs any gear, slightly over 10psi, o2 sensor is hooked up as far as i know but i will check and make sure tomorrow.
IF the o2 sensor wasn't hooked up then wouldn't the ecu be throwing a spastic?
cheers
matt
Nah, ECU will work relatively well with no wokring O2 sensor on a standardish engine setup and just run off the hard coded fuel maps rather than adjusting on the fly from O2 feedback.
So does it cut out at light / part throttle or only loaded up at full throttle under boost?

hmm i have not tried to get it to hit 5500 at light/part throttle. If it does still cut out what would that point to?
hey mate, hope u get this fixed soon, just thought id put the fuel pump question to rest, as i have just put a 1jz into my 87 gz20 soarer, running stantand gz20 pump, with no other fuel mods, and it runs fine past 5500rpm.

thanks man, yeah i sort of had ruled the fuel pump out as this is my second 1J that i have had in this car and it ran fine with the old motor until the cooling system shit itself and selfdestructed the internals of the motor, should have taken some pics it was quite impressive really!
so i am looking for something more simplerish that could have gone wrong since then, anyone know the code of fuel filter i need to buy? i am just being lazy tho
cheers
matt
the map sensor is on the right port on the manifold isn't it?
does it smell really rich at idle etc?
yeah man it smells REALLY rich at idle, which port is it meant to be on? that ways i can go check it out
cheers
matt
ahhhhhh okay...
do you have a boost/vac gauge?
when we put mine back together we managed to put the put the map sensor on the wrong port, it didn't see any vacuum, so it ran mega rich at idle and basicly like ass the rest of the time.. idled high, stalled easy..
I'd swap it around and see if the idle improves..
man i tried it on several different ports, i now have it on the same port that my gf's jzz3o has it on, it sees vacuum and all that but it is idling at about 1700 rpms smells rich as my old VL commodore,
no go on fuel filters???lol
ahh well.. bugger
no one-way valve or anything silly on it?
if its not too much of a pain.. i recon try swapping it with your mrs's map sensor![]()
no one way valve on it mate, and yeah i might give that a go as well, it is just going to be something that has clapped out since the last motor was running in it, just got to narrow it down i spose, thanks for your help tho! any others?
cheers
matt
thinking about it logicly, if its not an ECU triggered cut of some sort, it can only really be a couple of causes..
Ignition breaking down under load / spark going away
too much fuel
not enough fuel
-- hmm checked the vac/boost line to the fuel press reg?
man all the hoses seem to be ok, the vac boost line to the fuel pressure reg seems to make a lot of sense tho! i will have to get out there after work and have another REALLY REALLY good look at it!
thanks
