Smokey The ca18 are rev happy more so than the sr20 and there is only a 200cc difference between them engines. Yes the ca18 has a cast iron block.
Im assuming your alluding to the torque being greater in the sr20 due to the 200cc larger difference in displacement. It maybe so but i dont think its as much as you reckon.
The ca18det has a 8-Port head aids bottom end torque and makes on boost transition more progressive (basically increased bottom end torque).

I base my assumption on having driven both stock ca's and stock sr's, but more so based off technology... The sr is newer, so i assume things were improved... Also aftermarket support is there and in abundance... CA has support, but not the competitive market that the sr has...

These mental sr20s would be using solid lifters (tomei etc to replace the factory hydraulic) and alot of money spent on cams springs etc

Your right 100%. Do you think a sr20det will fit in the ta22 engine bay as easily as the ca18det ? I agree its a superior engine but after the power figures im chasing its not really required in a ta22 that is light to start of with. I would go a sr20det but its physically bigger and i think requires more work to fit.
    SR20 Pros:
-Better short block from factory (complete bottom end)
    -More modern
-It’s a 2L so it will be more torque’
    -It’s lighter being all alloy
    -Parts availability / aftermarket support

I think an sr20 ta22 would be wicked... But again it comes down to your budget. I dont think you'll have issues fitting it, as there are people who have fitted 1g into ta22's...

It will be tight, but nothing is impossible... Check my sig for details

Hey Gem, if you decide to go with CA, ya won't have to worry about custom cam covers, they are blank, its just the cover plate that goes over the spark plug well that says Nissan Twin Cam, easy enough to knock up a blank one!
I vote CA, cheap and easy!

The SR20 is a tight fit, and requires a whole heap of custom stuff for it to fit. Not as much as a 3s but still a fair bit.

Lindens 3s (the one in my car) made 250rwkw with a bigger turbo, inlet manifold, front mount, exhaust, and ecu. To get that from an SR your talking about opening the engine up.

In all honesty the 4a is probably the best option. Still modern, well documented, and they make enough power to beat your average traffic light hero.

Planned to spend 10k on it thats nearly already gone so not counting anymore.
Just spend whatever it takes i suppose but trying to be smart and not waste money at the same time. Do it once and do it right.

Wheres the best place to get custom engine mounts fabricated onto the cross member ?
