Default Fuel System setup for 4agte

Next step in my build is the fuel system, was thinking..

Factory pump to lift into swirl tank and then feed a main pump, ???? any ideas

And fuel reg, retain the standard reg or go Malpassi etc?

    Thoughts Toymodders?

    Expected power level?

Given you have an ae82, with an intank EFI setup already, why don't you just put a walbro / bosch pump in tank (Assuming that your expected power figure can be achieved with one pump) Why make it more complex than it needs to be?

I'd keep the stock reg if it is capable.

    Cheers Wilbo

200kw+ is the aim, so a system that can support 250kw would be my aim.

True, KISS, keep it simple stupid should be the aim where possible, I will look into the intank pumps.

Anyone using the factory reg with a boosted setup successfully?

Would a Walbro 255lph intank be a safe bet?

How can I work out my fuel supply requirements, I remember reading a formula somewhere?

Few ways to work out your requirements...

    1) Injector size

    2) Fuel type and efficiency of engine

Injector size is by far the easiest Also worthwhile looking at the fuel pump curve vs pressure to make sure that you take into account the fact that your fuel pressure increases when on boost (1:1 FPR)

    i.e.
    Walbro @ 75psi (40 base + 25 boost) ~200lph so that's approx 3333mL / sec, so ~833cc injectors in a 4cly...

I did a calculation using a formula I found a while ago and came up with a figure for the injectors of 550cc, plus any larger and I would start losing driveability low in the revs and a good idle as I figure it.

By that chart you posted I can see why the walbro is a lot cheaper.

The 82 intank is the same as the supra's isnt it?

Walbro 255 intank pump is your cheapest option, easiest installation and will support the power you talk about. I have seen them produce 200rwkw on cars that run e85 which requires 30% more fuel than ULP.

550cc sounds about right for ULP

A Walbro will easy do 4 x 550cc injectors so yeah I'd recommend that

Sorry I have no idea about AE82 fuel pumps!

As mentioned, depends what power you're after…and how reliable you want the system to be.
Also, what fuel you intend to use.

    I'm using:
    Carter Gold lift pump
    Surge Tank
    2x Bosch 044 pumps
    rx7 550cc Injectors (direct bolt-in for 4a)

This is in anticipation to be running E85 when I up the boost, at which time i'll switch to 800/1000cc injectors.

either a walbro or a bosch 040 intank pump. both will flow enough for your needs. walbros are not warranted for use on E85 so if you're going that way I would recommend the bosch unit. if you are circuit racing you might want to use an 044 (identical to the 040 except its for external use) with a surge tank.

as for FPRs, i thought you needed something aftermarket so that you can increase fuel rail pressure to compensate for boost pressure at that kind of boost level??

Fuellab pressure regs are the go. Alcohol compatible, you can get various psi ranges ie 25-90psi.
Pricing is also great on those.

you have 2 options, intank pump only, then a walbro or bosch. There can be surge under 1/4 tank and those walbros dont like sucking air!. Over time they get noisy from this, thats what happened to mine.
2nd option - surge tank setup. Run the stock pump as the lift, then a bosch 040 external pump, 044 if you really feel the need. The pumps are not quiet either, quite noisy. Surge tank setups are $$ as you need to run teflon braided lines to run the alcohol and stop fuel smell.

    ???

The 040 and 044 are identical pumps (they are the bosch equivalent to a walbrobro 255), only that the 040 is for intank use, and the 044 is external. But otherwise they are exactly the same specs.
