Cool, so I've now put it all around the right way.
Now what? I've got the cable adjusted so that it bolts onto the shifter, is that good enough or do I have to ensure that the shift lengths are right too?
These guys are all correct, the lever should point towards the ground, otherwise park will be where 1st should be, and vice versa.

With the cable end disconnected from the gearbox lever, set the shifter in first gear, and the gearbox lever in the corresponding position.
Adjust the cable at the gearbox end to slip freely in and out of the gearbox lever. Then shift the lever to second gear, and the shifter to the same, check alignment again, and work your way through the box till you get to reverse, checking each one. This is important to make sure the length of the shift lever is spot on.
Once you're happy, hook the cable up to the lever, and you're done.
Reason I didn't mention the Park position is that its 1.5 times the distance of any of the other gears, so to get park you actually shift one full position, then carefully push it another half to engage, don't force it. B&M only give you the option of 1.0 or 2.0x the normal shift ratio for park, as that's what the american boxes have (C4, glide, chrysler etc)

if you have the MV shift arm then you will need to pull the cable out and check that each click of the box is the same as the throw on the shifter (its probably wrong)
Once you know each figure you can then figure out the correct arm length and build accordingly.
once you have that sorted you then check that in 1st and reverse the hole lines up correctly (in accordance to the shifter and arm position)
Then bolt it up and away you go.

Hey guys,
I'm looking at fitting one of these B&M's to my ute, sick of the button shift, but i've got a bit of a question..
what happens with the 3-4 shift? the lever stays in the same position?
correct.......... still need a button

Yeah i run an RN90 hilux 2wd and i utilised the blank switch holders on the right hand side of the steering column, you can get narva switch's that fit perfectly with a small amount of filing on the sides of the plastic dash panel. I have two switch's one for overdrive and one for power/economy,with 3:7 diff gears anything over 80ks and it wants to be in overdrive but in stop start trafic i switch it off so it doesn't kick down 2 gears everytime you accelerate, the power/econ switch which i thought was a waste of time actually works very well in that it kicks down much later in the rev range and holds gears much longer but havin a shift kitted and 2800 stalled auto i'am usually shifting manually if i'm under it so upshifts don't matter to me, with the power switch on, overdrive switch off and manually shifting gears it a totally different vehicle to the econ switched, overdrive on left in drive scenario, you can imagine which one gets better fuel economy.
Anyone ever hear of a shifter that doesn't require button fangling etc?
So i have a KDOG shift box, and normal shifter, when the shift box is in 2nd and the shifter is in D, i get no engine braking.. irritating.. and trying to go back with the shift box & the shifter is really annoying..
Really I'd like to have plain old manual shift action... and i don't *REALLY* want to put a TH400 behind it... nor an actual manual box...
You just stepped out the two available options in your last sentence buddy![]()

Why not use the B&M bracket for the box's instead of the MV if it doesnt fit??
It gives you multiple cable positions. The option for 3 and 4 speed (as long as you have the 4 spped shifter of cause) Ive used them with no issue on both 3 and 4 speeds. I have one on the IS200 which has a 1UZ auto in it. Shifts fine (car could be faster) but the shift is fine.

I don't think you know what you want, a turbo400 is a three speed(no overdrive) heavyduty auto that takes a fair bit of power to run as its made to go behind big blocks and truck aplications,is this still a street car? if not why not go with a powerglide, much lighter and very strong when mildly modded, how modified is your current engine package? If it is still a streetcar why you don't want an overdrive i will never know,do you know anything about gear ratios?slot some super low diff gears in and have it launch off the line and still cruz at a respectable rpm on the highway, whats wrong with using a button just for overdrive anyway?
hmmmm i thought the TH400 was a 4 speed (its not) bugger - but its just a holden trans..
maybe your missing the point.. i *WANT* an overdrive... but i don't want to have to deviate from the different shifting mech's to do it.
Because of the diff ratio 4th is used heaps on my daily commute, in fact most of the shifts would be 3-4 but then to go back to second i need to pull the shifter back if i don't want to freewheel.
I'm starting to wish the ECU could just drive the sucker again - its a bit hard to get to the buttons in the heat of battle..
I know its a small issue... but it fricken irritates me... thats why im trying to fix it if the lux is going to be my daily still.
