does it happen reasonably often? or just the two times youve mentioned?

my x83 did it with its old engine, sometimes itd cut out and turn off just as though i turned it off with the key - no hesitation or roughness, just out like a light. other times itd do it fast enough for the engine to try and recover, jerking its way along till i gave it a bootful out of frustration

turned out to be the kickdown cable, i hooked it up to the wrong hoopajoob on the throttle linkage thinking it was cruise... i realised this conveniently after i replaced the engine with a 1J. not overly likely thats your drama, but give it a feel anyway see if its alright

Only those two times. The engine turned off but the dash was still Illuminated.

    DUDE..FFS..
give up on the little bit rich thing or this or that..

if it is CUTTING OUT, then something is STOPPING WORKING...
if it is losing a bit of power, or spluttering or something, then maybe you have mixture problems...

but if it is just cutting out, then either your fuel or spark is NOT FUCKING THERE.... got it? heh heh

AFM click will just fuck up something else...

something is fucked and causing car to cut out..

Yeah I get what you are trying to say, I just cant find the cause of it.
Could it be due to fouled spark plugs? Or if that was the case would the engine be spluttering all the time?

if the engine is losing power and spluttering or carrying on, then it could be fouled plugs, poor spark power, wrong mixture, intake leaks..

BUT, you say it cuts out.. so that means you are COMPLETELY losing spark, or fuel..... not partially.. not a little bit blocked, not fouled, not rich or lean (well.. could be totally lean as in no fuel)... you are LOSING something completely.. so it cuts out.

then again, if for some reason all your injectors are suddenly sticking open and hosing fuel in, then you can get rich cut... or if they are suddenly staying closed, you could get lean cut...

but, something is completely going away.. nto partially...

    Correct.

I wonder why it happens so rarely though, Like others have said it may be something getting knocked loose when going over a bump.

Did you notice this when it happened or afterwards? Are there surges/sputters/coughs tiny bit or does it shut off just like it's been switched at the key? Tach jump?

    LOL.

Dude, plenty of people have told you the likely problem, why are you trying to think up random other (un)likely issues? Instead of going out and looking for/ruling out what's been suggested?

You seem to be disinclined to listen and accept info from people because it differs from what you expected to hear?

It's only happened twice so far right?

    I wouldn't worry about it

what would a knock sensor do?

richen the mix, retard timing... NOT have a sudden cut out of the engine.

It has to be either fuel stopping (injectors stopping for some reason or fuel pump stopping) or ignition stopping - electrical issue

i think it might be the aerial...

or maybe the material of the back seats perhaps?

have you vacuumed it out recently?

from what everyone has said and your answers to there suggestions im willing to bet that the problem is electrical.

if its cutting out completley no spluttering or loss of power etc then obviously (as oldcarollas stated 500 times) something is obviously loosing power.

and as the lights etc are staying on then it must be either

    -power/earth to the computer
    -power/earth to the fuel pump
or a loose connection somewhere (to the computer or a sensor etc)

i had a similar problem a couple of years ago in one of my cars and it turned out to be a wire to the fuel pump. it would drive along fine then all of a sudden the engine would just shut down, no spluttering or anything. i found the dodgy wire. replaced it and ran a new earth wire to the fuel pump and never had a problem again.

I have a similar problem in that when I try and do backflips in my suzuki swift it seems to turn off for no reason - and catch on fire.
