I agree. Was speaking to a guy from a toyota wreckers in Melbourne, they were if the opinion that when the battery was disconected for a while, and the ECU resets, it slowly snips back the idle and relearns good levels. It runs rich and idles high till it sorts itself out.

my comment above about ISCV and power came from the experience of having a battery failure driving from canberra to brisbane. a cell must have failed near kempsey. when it was clutch started idle was high. then there were 7 hours of idle at 2200RPM, drove fine and no noticeable change to fuel use.
thru the towns it was 4th gear and ride the brake, and 40k zones were 3rd gear.

arrived in brisbane and [after sleep] bought new battery and idle was normal - no learning by ecu.

When in Drive at the lights my car Idles at 500 RPM, the engine hesitates and feels like its misfiring and the car shakes. In Neutral its about 600 - 700 RPM.

Any other people here have idle at about 500 RPM in drive at lights?
I'm just wondering if its normal.

And back to the original post, I just have that feeling that its a thing with the Auto ECU, try borrow a manual one just for the hell of it.

as people have already iterated in this thread and his other thread, it has nothing to do with the auto ecu. the auto is controlled by its own computer, the only thing that is different between an auto and manual ecu is the mapping. as you know, with an auto the engine doesn't drop revs while changing gear, so the ecu has to add fuel while it is changing. it will still work fine with the auto removed, because it doesn't receive any kind of signals from it.

its normal for the revs to drop while your on the brake, because the converter is dragging. if you think its misfiring, check your ig system, but i'd be guessing it's not.

the computer adjusts idle through the ISCV, so the only way for idle to be high is if he has an induction leak, clogged or fucked out ISCV, or too advanced ignition.

Ignore me.. I didn't realise there's an idle adjustment on the top of the throttlebody (as Vash mentioned in the first post) I didn't notice it because it's covered with a black rubber cap.

Turned it down this arvo and now it's all sweet.

    Hey pal,
I dont think that is your idle adjustment as i found a little flat tip screw with a lock nut where the throttle armiture hits on the stops.
i think the screw under the cap is a idlemixture adjustment?

    Cheers Guy

im pretty sure the idlemixture screw is on the afm. The one on the throttle body i would say is definatly the idle as ive played with it on mine and its makes a significant difference in idle when turned
