*cough* Peps Auto Wetherill Park. RDA272 $77 a piece standard.![]()
yep. 272's are what i got (slotted too)
thats not a bad price. when i did my convo i paid that for the pair
careful with the rebuild kits though.
i found when i rebuilt my calipers - i bought one kit and it was for ln106 - one piston was smaller than the other on that caliper rebuild kit - wrong one.
i ended up getting the right rebuild kit from toyota - it was $40 and spot on. apparently there were different variations in the ln106 calipers - mine ended up coming off a surf.
its a very good brake upgrade, but, when you factor in new pads, rebuilt calipers, cost of calipers new bearings ect ect the hoppers kit starts to come into focus.

I was talking to one of my 4wd mates the other day, and he said that Hilux guys often swap their calipers with some volvo ones. Has any body heard of this?
I was thinking maybe they would be alloy?, and a lot lighter.
Could we use these instead of hilux ones and get a massive weight reduction?
After doing a little searching on the old forums, it is mentioned once or twice. Some people say they are cast though.
Anyone shed some light on this?
1ggte ra40 Celica:
- F-Series Diff + truetrac LSD
- Corona/Pug/Hilux brake upgrade
- Gen 1g-gte (MS1 ECU)
Volvo calipers are actually usually heavier than the Hilux ones, not sure why they would swap.
RX7 i can understand why....

any chance they could be talking about swapping the rear drums to volvo discs?
i think some of the later rmodel ovlov 4-spots are alloy not cast iron - but are still heavy compared to nissan and mazda calipers.
all the early model ones are steel boat anchors.
I'd like to confirm a something, are the 504/505/604 items all the same?
If so ive got price for 504/505
- Solid $86.99 or $92
- Vented $160
- Crossdrilled $203.39
For 604
- Vented $123
Also, has anyone done this upgrade (or any larger brake upgrade) and gone to 5 stud?
call DBA and see if part DBA272 is the same for those models or if only for the 604, thatl answer the disc question.
5 stud is same only you use Crown MS65? 5 stud hub and have the disc drilled / holes enlarged to bolt to the back of the crown hub.
Bearings should be the same as Corona ... which is the same for RA23/28/40 and Holden HQ.
Now the HQ disc is another option ... heavy as with the disc and hub being 1 peice ... IE replacment discs have an integral hub ... which gives you holden 5 stud pattern.
But the the disc is too large for a Landcruiser / Hilux 4 spot caliper. So then its a different caliper and bracket to mount it in the correct position for the HQ disc.
Reportedly Later holdens ie VL/VK have the same integral type hub arrangement but may be on 20ish mm discs which may then work with the Landy / Hilux 4 spots. But this I cannot confirm.
The HQ i have tried and tell you fits with std bearings on a RA23/28/40 / Corona XT130 strut.
Hope this helps!![]()

wow.. looks like i've joined the conversation half way through, so forgive me for not reading the 11pages,
what need to know is this, how can i source blank pug rotors, so i can have them drilled to 5 stud, i'm not keen on RE-drilling the 4 stud holes, i wanna keep it legal is there a simple alternative? is there a rotor which will fit with relative ease? don't mind moving the caliper if i can find a different rotor
also i've heard mention of RX-7 calipers being used, though haven't been able to find any info when i went to look for it...anyone got details?
'77 RA28LT #2 ← 2.2L 18RG...
maybe 2 piece rotors from dba? should be easier getting a blank hat than a disc id assume but i may be wrong... an idea though.

sorry i havent read the last 11 pages either but im curious to nkow if you will need a bigger brake booster for the upgrade or not, it would make sense to get a bigger one wouldnt it??
Now targeting, people who are now targeting!!
No reason to increase booster size unless you have a realy stiff pedal feel.
That is usualy only a problem if you fit a larger master and no increase in slave cylnder size.
regards
jon
For the conversion i would highly reccomend a 7/8th or 15/16th master. The pissy 13/16ths which normally come with many Toyotas which this fits really isnt enough. Gets highly spongey.
