First 5 digits tells you what the part is - e.g. 41201 means Final Gear Kit, Differential Rear.
It has nothing to do with compatibility at all - just means they have the same name.

Pick any part on different models and thet start with the same 5 digits.

An experienced parts man knows them without looking them up - or al least my local bloke does.

What is the full part number for your CWP? Deciding between the 4.557 and the 4.7 TPS one.

I'd like to add the newer Toyota diffs to my axle database, but if I'm reading this thread correctly there's no reliable way to identify a diff type based on the newer axle codes. Or is there another way it can be done? It would be great if there was some way to get all the information into one place and eliminate all this confusion.

Apparently the newer EPC's have a way of relating the codes to models that the part was fitted to. Thats where the info for the model cross refs I got were from so I guess thats a start.

well the 4.55 gearset is in the country. should be easy enough to get a parts dept to get it into their store, pull it out and take a look

You'd want the R&P out of an RA65 Manual (3.58) or MZ12 Auto (Diff has G series input flange on it tho, but if you want the R&P shouldn't effect ya!). Both a F series IRS

    I've got a MZ12 3.58 that I'd sell, swing me a PM if interested (~125,000km)!
