Default 1G-GTE into a Corona Avante.

    Hello Toyota Lovers,
I have a conundrum. I have a 84 Avante which has a buggered 22R-E. Otherwise, it is great, 4 wheel discs, etc that came with the top model Avante. I can also get a frontcut from a Cresta for $1800.00 with a 1G-GTE. I have read some of the forums and it seems this is possible and would be a wicked engine swap but my question is this, am I being a fool to think I'll get this registered or that I'll accomplish this for under $4000.00?

is it registered already? you wouldn't want to go over the pits with a 4k 1ggte conversion. If you can do lots of the work yourself it is possible but doubt youll get it engineered and registered with only spending that much.

It's nothing new either, so you should be able to research the conversion enough to help you along the way.

If you drop the motor and and stock box and stock ecu. Very good chance you'll do it for that much. Only if you do nearly everything urself.

Any other mods like brakes diff etc will add. Then theres engineering........

having 4 wheel discs, he might not need to get the brakes done?

    (thinking out aloud)

or were they tiny little discs..?

They have to accrew enough for nose reconstructions as well as feeding his mime family. The dont talk much so they never need much water for their dry mouths.

RA60 disks should fit, and then you just find suitable callipers (MX63 Cressy maybe)

A 1G-GTE Gen3 engine/box/ECU/loom package can be had for around the 1k mark if you look hard enough.

Brett_Celicacoupe got his RA40 1G-GTE conversion done and engineered for around the $2500 mark... but he did pretty much EVERYTHING himself. That included brake upgrade, fuel system (you already have EFI, so an upgraded pump is all you will need), upgraded intercooker etc etc.

So yeah, it can be done for under $4k, but you will have to be willing to DIY bigtime.

Just gotta worry about the extra rego costs. Agreed they are a fantastic motor though.
