3SGE No Acceleration (video Available)

I had a new thermostat and new water pump installed on the engine (new thermo before installation, new water pump after installation) could either of the sensors (water and O2) have been affected by these things, i am fairly confident it is a sensor problem so anyone mentioning a sensor at fault has my full attention.

Also been messing with the idle screw already, it reacts fine to the changes in the turns.
at least i think it did, it was ages ago i did that, might try again to be safe

Dude the only sensor that should affect a gen 1 from running would be the AFM, they'll run without an o2 sensor, with the TPS unplugged, water temp sensors I can't say though... it's on the water junction near the dizzy, will be one of the bigger two plugs

New thermostat or new thermostat housing ? If they did the housing there is a chance they could have changed over the water temp sensor. Thermostat alone it's unlikely. Grab a vacuum gauge from your local parts store, they are cheap as shit and are great for diagnosing problems.

it should have a green or yellow plug with two pins on it. (its green on my JZA70 1J, and Yellow on my JZX90 1J). they are interchangeable between a lot of cars though. MR2 uses the same sensor, as does the estima, corsa, tercel, some landcruisers, and a whole heap of others.

Update*
Car has now been transported to the Local Toyota Dealer, If they can't fix it i think i just wasted abut $2700 chasing an unrealisable dream.

you could do it yourself, step by step, byut taking sensible steps and eliminating problems...
or you could get an apprentice mechanic at a dealer to spend weeks on it trying to find the spark plugs

i doubt they will have any idea let alone have any mechanics that have worked on a 162 if you were in sydeny i would come help yaz sort it out

AFM - loom wiring
ECU
Dizzy or capp
Coil
ignitor

Vac leak - head to tvis- tvis to inake - intake to tb

get some one with a 162 to help you someone volunteer and swap shit till it works, i doubt there is anything mechanically causing this problem

I had the exact same problem with my ST162 with 3SGE, was running very average and stalling under acceleration.

Turned out to be the coil. I replaced most of the other ignition components (leads, rotor, plugs etc.), cleaned the throttle out and had the AFM checked...the moment I tried a second hand coil the engine came to life. It was a pain in the ass to fix and I got no error codes before replacement

Ran awesome once I got that fixed because just about everything was new

I had the car booked in for for what was supposed to be a two and a half day job on the May 2nd, that was 5 weeks ago, nearly 6, everything that was suggested (previous to today) has been gone over so time for a specialists opinion, the mech there has been working for 23years, my car was new or not yet released when he started his apprenticeship so he should have good knowledge i figure.
I originally put this thread on OzCelica.com and had a lot of replies at first but after a while no new replies, so i put it on here and got more opinions, checked out everything suggested, even replaced all but maybe 2 vacuum hoses again and still no go.

oh and the Coil, i honestly never thought about that, not even a thought, will pass on info.

Yeah sorry to snap, can you imagine my frustration though, the sheer excitement of getting my car back only have it be delayed constantly by some phantom problem.

Cold start works fine, starts up alright, just doesn't accelerate man. Injectors have been cleaned with new seals and all.

Have you checked the coil yet? Do ittt!!!

no i havent't done the coil yet, i have mates that are all holden/fords bogans so no mates to just swap parts with i gotta buy everything, i'm getting one shipped in by another forum member, should arrive thursday if he sends it tomorrow.
