Default 4age air box temp sensor?

Ok so i bought a ae92 4age corolla the other week and it has been fitted with the typical sports exhaust (sounds like crap) and the typical pod filter with dodgey pipe work, my question is seem as the air box is missing what effect does it have that its also missing the intake temp sensor?

how dodgey is the pipe work??? I have seen a few cars with dodgey pipe work and they have a chrome coated plastic pipe approx 20cm long connecting from throttle body to pod filter (or even a Nike sock) and quite a few of them actually drill a hole into the pipe and install the sensor (eventhough some are not even seal properly) ...

My smallport was missing the air temp sensor (bigports have the sensor in the plenum from memory)

I found one and wired it up, i just zip tied it near the inlet of the pod filter.

    benefits were:

    better fuel economy

    much better power,

    engine felt much more "crisp"

all due to the engine running too rich with no sensor.

    get one!

makes sense, my small port runs like a bucket of crap compaired to my big port.

will see if i can get a new one

I've been going through hassles getting an air-temp sensor for my AE82 at the moment, it seems MAP bluetop bigports (aka 3-rib) have the air temp sensor in the intake plenum, whilst MAP red/blacktop bigports (aka 7-rib) have it in the airbox. Unfortunately, when mine was converted from 3-rib to 7-rib, the airbox and intake piping weren't swapped over. So I've got a 7-rib plenum with 3-rib airbox, and thus no provision at all to mount a temp sensor.

Being fixed at the moment, but the car has been driven for probably years without the sensor with little ill effects (probably idling too high, and the ECU constantly throws a code, but apart from that it's fine)

tried there several times with nothing so far.
i wonder if any other toyota runs the same sensor ?

toyota wanted $88 for a new one, just trying to decide if its worth the dollars for any improvement i might gain.
Also planning on doing a coolant temp sensor and an o2 sensor as well.

Dont know why but i stopped getting emails to notify of replies to this thread. strange.
