i used a sponge, it took a while but im sure there are other better methods out there haha.
As the title says, I popped off the first spark lead on my 7M and found quite a nice amount of oil sitting in there (I couldn't actually see the spark plug).
Question is, how do I remove this as I have pretty much no tools or anything (basic socket set). I've got a bit of degreaser, but I'm not sure how that'll help me, there really is quite an amount of oil in there
Any ideas/proven methods to rid myself of this problem (and hopefully get my nice smooth idle back?)

a rag, screwdriver and patience![]()
Destroyer of 'Drop Forged' spanners
cloth, and lots of it!
oh and a syringe to get the last few bits.
Syringe w/ small hose on the end to suck it out, then tissues to dab/wipe it all up. Put tissues on the end of a screwdriver and get into all the corners. Once most is out, you can remove the plug and the clean the bottom a bit better. Then, fix the cause of the oil leak.
Kind Regards,
Kurt.

which was either a poor attempt at using your oil filler or cam cover leak
do the cam cover gaskets
then degreaser/carby cleaner and lots of water, let car run and get hot to clean evaproate any residue, then change the plugs
(doing it this way has set a known soarer on fire.....apparently)
A large syringe with a bit of hose attached is a handy item to have in your tool box! Also good for emptying oil catch cans, brake/clutch fluid reservoirs etc...
Thanks gentlemen, I'll get out there with the rags n all that jazz and see how I go.
Cam cover gaskets you say? It does leak and absolute arseload of oil (you should see underneath where it's parked) so I might have to get around to doing that when I start work again.
Omce again, cheers for the help + rep coming to you all![]()
piece of piss. gasket goo + socket wrench + gasket scraper, job done. (well, and some prepsol/degreaser and a rag)
^^^ almost as easy as installing brake pads backwards....![]()
^ hahahah
Hmm I might give the cam covers a shot. I'm more of a theory person though, tend to be fairly shit at actually working on cars, but I don't start work until the end of the month so I spose I've got enough time for it to sit through a few 'fuck this is crap I'll do it later' episodes![]()
hey, 7 out of 8 aint bad![]()
Salt will soak it up. Then you need to find someone who knows how to get rid of the salt.
