3SGTE manifolds, TRD GT supra.. now with INSIDE PLENUM pics

but since this engine makes 470ps, and not 500ps, it seems odd that it would be thrit top runner in GT500.. the 470ps is not great, but the 650Nm certainly is!!!!!!!!

methinks it is just the TRD display car instead... it says GT SUPRA ont he poster in front of it, but does not indicate any particular class of racing..

sorry dude, bigger but maybe not much better... when i was in Toyota Amlux in Shibuya(?) i did not have a whole lot of time to take the pics as i was with a non-car person....
perhaps you could buy me a ticket to tokyo and i'll take em again

Why take a 2J out of a Supra, unless to run it in a different class. They arn't the lightest car either...hmmm....great power from a 3S though.,..

they run the 3S because the motor is set back for better balance & the 3S makes better power per kilo of engine weight ,in the GT500 class

so anyway, i went back to Amlux on the weekend and got better pics...

this time, i pulled the cover off the intake, and took some pics inside the plenum itself.... the knobbly bits are for the studs.. there are just simple bellmouths.

the incoming air actually aims above all the bellmouths... kind of vaguely like the audi 2 part manifolds... so the incoming air doesn't directly impinge on the bellmouhts themselves... there aren't any air deflectors in the plenum.
of course, this may not be what they used in the race engine.. but it's a start...

Yeah : That inlet manifold/ plenumn does get extremly thin at the end there doesnt it. ( no. 4 cyl)


At first i thought toyota would have done extnsive flow testing to get to a design like that But then i thought -- I wonder if they had to build it like that due to space requirements ???

i have a whole bunch of new pics.... i will email tonight i made sure to get some better angles.. as the motor had been moved to a new spot with better lighting

it IS thin back there.. but you need to think of how the air will be moving when it enters the plenum.. as the air kind of enters offset.... ie not blowing over the top of the bellmouths etc... anyways... maybe a tech thread will be created with the new pics

some things to remember:

if thats a JTGC (now super GT) engine its not a 3sgte, well not a real one... its the "3S-GT a full custom race engine thats based on the 3sgte, with very few in any interchangble parts with the 3stge. its 100% made and maintained by TRD. to the TOMS engine mentioned back a page or two would have been a TRD engine. and no before you ask you CANT buy one, we tried! all TRD engines stay the property of TRD and are leased to teams
