Not so sure on this one. The size of the gerotor in the Gen2 and Gen3 3SGTE is both the same. the Gen3 has a pulley with one less tooth though so it turns the pump faster flowing more oil. However apparently the late model 5S had a gerotor ~2mm deeper than the 3SGTE. If you buy one of those Toda hi flow pumps it is just a late model 5S pump with the smaller pulley.Originally Posted by RWDboy

But the 5S pump housing is missing the belt guide stud thing! Not sure if that matters though?
If you're talking about the alloy stud that gets screwed in next to the crank timing pulley I don't thinks it's too big an issue. The early Gen2 oil pump didn't have that at all. It's pretty funny when people rebuild an early gen 2 with a new oil pump and don't screw something into that hole, it goes right into the oil supply.
This matches my experience.Originally Posted by Joshstix

Really that sounds like a bit of a beast, would be quite tight to run a nice 2.2 3sge, could you give a little run down of your engine build up if possible?Originally Posted by rolleraction
Cheers in advance.
here here ... quite interested if this is quite feasible and worth while.![]()

[QUOTE=rokusan]crank = 5s again a bit simple not having the same finish or knife edging as 3sgte and this one had a strange machining on it for balancing?
This where the gear is pressed on for counterbalancer. You must have an earier crank? (Not as good) Was it 6 bolt 8 bolt at the flywheel end?
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I see I didn't reply. My apologies. I am all exited over 3S's again after reading Glenn Booths thread on his beams' results....
OK.looked at the phot finally...Yep that flat round section of the crank is where the ring gear is pressed onto. The ring gear (looks exctly like a mini ring gear on your flywheel for anyone who hasn't seen one) mesh's with a similar gear on a counter-balance shaft in some cars fitted with 5S series engines. The gear is cut or simply pressed off if you want to drop it into a 3S.
From memory, 5S & 3S rods are the same length c2c, same pin size, but the big end on a 5S is about 52mm (could even be 54mm?) and I think a 3S is 48mm. I guess you could grind the 5S down to 48mm but unsure on strength etc. Offset grind for even more stroke could also be interesting with custom pistons with appropriate compression height etc........
Cheers
Steve
you are right, the rods are the same length etc. the journals are smaller too like you said, i have come to the conclusion that the 3s is more than enough and the 5s turbo is probably a bit diehard....but id like to see some experimento....com'on you st204owners! bolt a hairdryer to that stocki!!
interesting what you said about the ring gear, makes sense...
it was an 8 bolt from memory, from a st204
