I now use the ACL bottom conversion set with no issues. Comes with cork sump seal, front/rear crank seals etc and waaay cheaper than oem. Just have to goo in a little piece of the front timing cover gasket due to the difference in pushrod/dohc. I cut my own intake manifold and timing inspection gaskets from paper.
And now can source ACL 2tgeu top end gasket set for a few interchangeable bits. They were hard to get for a while. Repco now stock them in NZ.
The exhuast gasket number is 17173-88280 as 73GTV stated, it has the fire ring. I bought OEM sump gasket as Im not a fan of the cork gasket, also went OEM for the seals as i think they are better quality...the other gaskets are fine aftermarket

Last few times I tried to buy the 3tgte exhaust gasket it wasn't available so had to go with a 2tgeu gasket without the ring

This weekend I was looking on line for gaskets to see if I could find the flame rings seal on the exhaust gaskets and I only found them on the Old Stone Gaskets for a 2T series engine on EBay which is sad since they use to supply most of them with the metal seal, some bean counters option I guess.

I bought a couple of these genuine exhaust gaskets with fire rings a couple of years ago from Japan. I don't think they are available anymore....The fire ring is part of the gasket.

Understood, I also had purchased a while back with said ring around each port, but have not seen them since, which is why I mentioned the Stone Gasket set. I was at a event this past weekend where the vendors normally will have NOS parts and sadly the gasket sets I was looking for had been purchased. This was also the first time that I did not see any cars with a 3TG installed.

Not any TA63 this year, what is going on..

    Gents

Try buying part number 17173-25013 and you will get the metal fire rings. Recent purchase as you can see by date on label.

stidnam - are they genuine toyota parts purchased through your local dealership?
or did you order on amayama or something?

I have bought things from Campbeltown Toyota in the past from memory.

Perhaps the lack of 3TG engines in cali is the difficulty finding the engine and parts? i guess more people are doing JZ and BEAMS engine swaps instead ?

I'm not sure if Toyota has made any other RWD north south turbo 4cyl's since the 3TG ?

Genuine Toyota that were purchased via amayama. $8.75.

Toyota made a RWD north south turbo 4cyl's after the 3TG, it was the 4TGTE

After getting rid of my original std ECU, i found it easier when i bought a haltech ecu to wire up, to be able to diagnose issues in wiring eg what is working RPM triggers and signal to fuel pumps...etc.
Using the software that goes with them really gives you an insight of what is working.
A std ecu tells you no info and i was chasing my tail trying to diagnose the fault.
Also it future proofs yr build. You may want bigger turbo, bigger injectors.
Most std ecu may run on old flat type air flow meters, which can be bulky in engine bays. You get rid of those things.
After market ECU's are not hard to play with, just research different types for your needs and skill level.
You learn to mix and match parts when the original parts become scarce.. its not a bad thing to upgrade...

My skill level is basic, so i went for a Haltech EK6, very cheap should be under $300 in my books. old software DOS.
Then i went to Haltech sprint 500, so easy to manage, not too many extra features i wont need. software easy and up to date.
i paid 700 for my sprint with harness. that was cheap. But in saying that you can pick them up easier now.
Haltech allow you to tune yr car yourself, You should be able to find a base map easy enough, while other ECU brands may need to be sent back for them to load a tuning map.

    just my thoughts.
also its a fun learning curb.
