i need a ct20 to T3 flange ??
why cant you guys be in tassie to help me out lol... i want to keep the costs low, as i said if i could id go a custom manifold and a gt30 with a small rear housing or something similar.... T3 adaptor sounds interesting, very common too im to believe?? im not going to push 24psi out of the ol girl as its my daily driver, on a dyno maybe![]()
cheers for your help guys if you have any links of this such type of work done please feel free even a picture or two as a guide line for me

i need a ct20 to T3 flange ??
Not just another toy, My pride, My joy!
change that... a ct20 to ct26 twin entry, just bought a 26 off a gt4... hoping to do this conversion to my 3TGTE
any one like to help??

spaz021,
To spool the twin entry properly, you will need a custom manifold where the exhaust runners are paired appopriately. The exhaust housing between the single entry and twin entry are interchangeable. The single entry can be bolted onto the standard 3tgte manifold with a little sloting of the exhaust housing bolt holes, and porting of the 3tgte manifold.
You will need to rotate (clock the housings) the exhaust (turbine) and intake (compressor) housings to get the drain pointing straight down and the compressor outlet pointing in the right direction.
you can use the ct20 drain and feed lines for a neat solution.

oh so ive just bought a paper weight??
where on earth will i find a single entry rear housing by itself??
gosh maybe ive bitten off more than i can chew here,
i was on the assumption that with a custom flange single into dual would fix the twin entry problem??? im aware of the needing to rotate and yes im going to use my ct20 lines as an idea (hopefully they all line up they seemed to)
gosh i just wanted a cheap option to a better turbo and thought the ct26 would be...![]()

I had no idea a twin entry turbine housing was black magic...???
There is still the same volume of exhaust gas coming from the engine, and it still has only one way out - through the turbine!
At worst you will have similar results to a single entry turbine. The split entry can gain some advantage with a properly designed manifold however it has been run the 'wrong' way in countless applications with no issues at all!
Heck the yanks right now deliberatly use a twin scroll turbine housing on an undivided header with a special flange which blocks one scroll via a solenoid for ultra quick spool in drag racing applications!
So spaz you have not bought a paper weight. If you can score an open turbine housing for nix then swap it but otherwise use what you bought and profit!

yeah i just got onto shaw performance here in hobart tas and they said the exact same thing...
what goes in must come out as long as the flange divides the exhaust gases who cares it'll still spool fine but yes a custom exhaust manifold will have its benifits over the 3tgte manifold anyways...

and with that off ebay i should be able to save on a possible rebuild if it actually needs one, plus ill save on the balance too... as i need to rotate the housings to line everything up![]()
but still any help is greatly appreciated as i havent done this conversion yet and im prettyclueless about it, i wanted to do it myself but i need a pro's help
cheers peoples

Hey spaz, you will not need a balance with just rotating the housings mate!
Just be careful not to damage the wheels while attempting to move old housings which may be a little stubborn...

cheers jason,
handy info cause i was told i did have to grr but with that part i should be laughing anyways, just incase the turbo has a broken seal or something, it came off a gt4 that was running fine, as the shaft doesnt budge which is greatbut i just want to be sure
there'd be nothing worse then fitting it all up only to have say an oil leak and it to char out heaps of smoke...

No you haven't bought a paper weight, note I said to spool it properly, it will still spool just not optimal, a single turbine entry will spool better with the 3tgte manifold. A twin entry spools even better with the right manifold, speaking from personal experience.
7mgte turbos not that hard to find, ask around you will find a few people with blown ones in the garage if you are so inclined.

hey just wondering does anyone know what a good aftermarket ecu is for a 3tgte?? i own a 1984 tt142 toyota corona gt-t 4door 5 speed manual. im starting to do some work to the engine but i am wondering what would be suitable for it?
daniel.
i reckon microtech, something like the mt4 ?? plenty of choices though...

Quick question guys.
My 3tgte has got an oil leak coming from the top/front of the timing cover. I was wondering whether the head gasket seals this section of the cover of whether there is a seal there.
Short of removing the head and investigating, is there anything I can check or has anyone had a leak from here before and has a good idea of what needs to be replaced/tightened?
The engine has done approximately 1200km's since it was rebuilt (not by me, bought it this way) so I'll be checking/re-torquing the head bolts. I'll also give it a good degrease and scrub it down to try and track the leak down properly. Temporarily, is it possible to loosen/remove the cover bolts (and sump bolts I'm guessing) and drop it down a few mm to put a touch of engine sealant in there??
I have no issues fixing it properly but looking for a temp fix to last a few km's as it's booked in for engineering and a blue slip for next Monday the 27th!
Any help is appreciated,
Al

Al,
The timing cover uses the head gasket to seal that spot.
You can remove the timing cover as you suggested and just add a little silastic to seal it up. While it is off remove the two studs and replace them with bolts to make removing it again later easier ( ie without having to drop the sump)
The novice t series rebuilder will often forget tohavethe timing cover decked with the block to keep them the same height which can cause issues.
