In that pic the hydraulic tensioner is actually supposed to be on the inside of the chain, not outside as displayed. (small point but I am a pedant).
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

    Ok,

I have been trying to get a little research done before I order parts.

First thing is pistons and compression ratio. I have tried to compile all of the CR related info in one spot. (See the link at the bottom for a collection of these posts.)

The main meat of the info is as follows:

If any of these require correction, please respond and I will update this post.

    Chamber volume (stock) :
    3T-GTE: 64 cc (my measurement)
    3T-GTE: 60 cc (Yellorolla)
“3TG”: 65 cc (Turbotoy) (note: “head was milled a couple of times”)
    3T-C: 63 cc (wiseco- PDF)

    Stock 3T-GTE piston dome:
    6 cc (from memory) (YelloRolla)
    7.6 cc (my measurement)

    3T-GTE Comp. height: ???HELP
(I’m assuming that Compression Height is the same as the pin height – please confirm)

Rod Length: (From Radar – here)
    2TC, 3TC, 3TG: 4.850
    Stroke: (From Radar – here)
    2TC: 2.75
    3TC, 3TG: 3.070

Wiseco 3TC (with 63 cc head) (from PDF)

(Arias 'link' in illustration above is actually to a post in this thread)

EDIT: Clearance stated in table above for Arias pistons is NOT correct for pistons made from 2618 material, according to Arias tech support (by phone 2011/03/22).

FT stands for "Flat Top", and -2 is due to the cutouts for the valves.

I have copied the CR/piston related posts from this thread into one big page.
I added a few additional questions. The formatting is rubbish, but it ought to be better than digging through this 30 page thread.

I will add replies and clarifications as necessary.
Please fill in the blanks where you can!

Today I have a carnage photo and a question.

    Carnage:

    Question:
Is this normal for a main bearing fillet on one of these engines?

    Additional http://www.3sgte.com/Carina/DSC0328211.jpg

The bearings were in awful shape.

For some reason the bearings look better in the pictures than in real life.

    looking at getting this:

    http://www.kameariusa.com/2TG_IdlerTensioner.php

it says it's available for early and late model engines, how do I know which one mine is?

Also looking at one of these:

Just wanted you guys opinions on them.

FYI - Kameari gave me a response about the idler tensioner

"Regarding the 2TG Idler Tensioner, the later type 2TG engines use the 2-bolt version, and the early type 2TG engines use the 6-bolt version."

    Ok,
I just measured the chamber volume and piston dome for one cylinder.
    I got:
    Chamber volume 64 cc
    Dome volume 7.6 cc
    Headgasket thickness 1.2 mm

Edit: works out to a CR of about 7.98:1

I measured the chamber volume with the sparkplugs that came in it.

That is consistent with my 3tgteu head at 63cc with shaved head. I have always been told the stock 3tgteu had 7.8:1 ratio.

3sgte- bearing looks like a million particles embedded into the bearing shell? wouldn't be too surprised at this considering the piston looks like it's been driven on since going bang. suspect that the oil pump and cam bearings will be similar. the oil filter when cut open should show what's being pumped through the engine. having a failure such as this can clog the filter and likely open the bypass or filter element collapses.

Yeah, the bearings are not pretty.
They have a gritty texture to them.
Good call on cutting open the filter. I'm sure it is pretty sparkly in there.

When I saw the first bearing I nearly cried for the crankshaft, but the crank looks a whole lot better than I would have expected given the bearing condition.
I haven't given serious thought as to whether to regrind it yet.
Not having a machine shop that I know and trust makes that decision harder.

As for the oil pump, I am getting a new one.

    question - i am chasing a cometic MLS head gasket for the 2TG / 3T-GTE 87mm

BRD keep delaying when they will have some, so i looked around and it appears Paradise sell them aswell, anyone ordered from the before?

also noticed on ebay, there's 2 for a 2TG, but are listed as different widths? Which is better? .043" or .059"

    Steeko,

I would make 100% sure wherever your ordering your Head gasket from knows what you are after.

I ordered a Cometic MLS gasket off ebay and got a composite one (they give it a flash name but its still a composite Gasket).
So I contacted Cometic in the US... They DONT MAKE an MLS gasket for the 2TG / 3TGTE so unless its a new product for them what your ordering does not exist

Check that ebay link - ITS NOT AN MLS GASKET

Good looking out, I can't remember exactly but I think I got a 3tc gasket last time and it was missing the timing chain area, from brd

Aside from not being metal and being less tolerant of boost/detonation, it still ought to work, right?

That 87 mm bore size is looking very very sweet.

    Steeko,
What pistons did you wind up going with?

    Stock gasket is 1.2 mm.
