    Great thread fellas!

Think Im getting some timing chain noise under the tapet cover and wondering if there is a clever way to fit a new chain by removing the tappet cover and feeding down past the sprockets? I already have a replacement upper chain. When I rebuilt the engine 2 years ago the chain and sprockets were slightly worn but OK still. Was thinking maybe:
    - remove chain tensioner
    - remove tappet cover and the carefully remove cam gears, punch out chain link
    - feed new chain around lower sprocket and retieve with wire. Connect chain and reinstall cam gears?

    Thoughts/suggestions?
    Cheers

    Tweety,

I have done as you suggest not on the 3tg however but worked quite well non the less, can't see why it can't be done as long as you keep tension on the chain and line every thing up aftewards.

found a T-18 with power steer and aircon.
Pretty sure T-18's all came out here in AUS with the 3T-C ??

Any reason why the 3T-C power steer or aircon pumps wont bolt onto my 3TGTE?
Isn't a 3TGTE and 3T-C the same block but just with a different head and turbo?

Box or rack steering? If its rack then its not a T18 setup and I haven't heard of a Corolla power box before. Blocks are the same so in theory it should swap over, you would need to check any manifold clearance issues and pully alignment.

am staying away from the power steer for now.

If the blocks are the same and the 3TGTE has aircon as a factory option, surely it should clear everything right? Anyone here got aircon on their 3TGTE with a pic? which side of the block does it attach to?

There are potentially differences in mounting position between a 3T-C and 3T-GTE as well as possible differences in the compressor itself. 3T-GTE runs both air-con and powersteering on the drivers side, I would presume the 3T-C is the same due to alternator running on passenger side. I will see if I can dig out the pics of the 3T-GTE that I stripped.

heres a few 2tg/3tgt aircon brackets. they all mount in the same spot.
    http://toycrazy.net/miscpics/parts-202.jpg
power steering down low, aircon half way up the block on r/h side.
ps on recirculating ball in the E7 chassis was available in some markets. ie was optional on the jdm te70 SL coupe with 13t-u.

afaik you'll only find te72 badged as a T-18 in australia.
there are no Te7#'s with rack from the factory, as rack doesn't fit under the T sump too well. if you have a rack.. check the rack mounts or the engine mounts for signs of fabrication. as this is what i did, just used ke70 xmember and rack and welded on the te71 mounts for 3tgte.
jdm ae70 have the option of rack and ps. basically same setup as ae86.

thanx forf the info + pics.. rep for you
so just how common were t18s in OZ? seems they're not too easy to find and even more hard to find with aircon

Wrecker with t18 with aircon wants $250 for it,, seems a bit steep considering the wreck aren't worth that much. Buy at high price considering availablility? or wait out in hopes for a toymodder to have aircon?

FYI, haven't posted pics yet but the T-18 engine mounts for a 3T-C do not fit a TA63 3T-GTE.
The T-18 mounts are about 1.5cm shorter including bolt and rubber section.

However suprising Toyota still make the rubber TA63 3TGTE engine mounts at only $90 each.

im running te71 mounts with 3tgte. are you saying te72 are different? got pics?
the steel brackets are same size. the rubbers are not. so if putting 3tgte into te7 chassis.... us the te7 rubbers and it bolts in.
