Have noticed a cheap 3TGTE on ebay and it got me thinking. Would that engine slot into the same space a 2TG currently does?

I imagine the blocks are pretty similar, I just wondered how much bigger the head and ancillaries might be.

    Thanks in advance
Easiest conversion ever, uses same engine mounts. It is essentially exactly the same size.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Yes. There are a number of 3T-GTE powered TA22s running about the place. PM Tomas (Blue22) as he has one and can give you more info if you like.

    Question Re: 3T GTE Tech

Need some help guys. My fuel pump has gone. 12volts at the pump with only an initial click but no buzz or hum. Its an external JECS pump of unknown output and I need to know what I can use as a replacement, as I believe JECS pumps are no longer available.

Am I able to just grab any external EFI Fuel pump as long as the pumps flow will be suficient?
Are there different output pressures or are they all standard?
Can a pump have too much flow? affects on fuel rail pressure?

I know that there are many different pumps for the efi externally mounted, the pressure regulator and the return line would, I believe, relieve too much pressure if there was any. Too little would be a larger problem I think, anyway I converted my TA27 to efi and used the bosch 044 model with a surge tank and return lines and have not had any issues to date. I know this might be a little over kill but I am collecting/building a turbo 2tg so the pump should be ok for both. HTH Good Luck

True but it will sit pretty high and forward and you can get it a lot lower and a good few inches back more

    Hi all

Quick question relating to pistons. I recently purchased some 87mm forged arias for my 3TGTE and they arrived today (I specifically asked for 3TG pistons). The problem is that they state they are for a 3TC. I read in another thread somewhere that the pin height is the same for the 3TC and 3TG but the valve reliefs aren't (which may cause a problem). I think YelloRolla mentioned (in reference to weisco pistons) that because the valve reliefs are oversized for the 3TC weisco pistons then there won't be an issue when using them in a 3TG. Does the same apply to the Arias? How can i tell if the valve reliefs are oversized?

These are the specs for the pistons
    Displacement:1854.75
    Finished bore: 87.00
    Stroke: 77.98
    Rod length: 122.9
    Comp height: 34.93
    Compression: 8.50
    Pin diameter: 22.0
    Top groove: 1.5
    2nd grove: 1.5
    Oil groove: 4.0
    Clearance 0.089

    Dome CC: 8.80

Will these suit my application? As you can tell i'm no mechanic and I have plenty of noob questions but I refuse to give up on my TA63
    .
    Any help would be great.

    Cheers
    J.

I will need to check, but from the top of my head the rod length seems to be quoted incorrectly.

Thanks Jas. I shot an email back to them and the response was this"

"Hi Josh, a little known secret is that the 3TC and 3TG bottom end
    components are the same.
    You will be fine.
As with any engine, build you should "always" check valve to piston
clearance. I suggest you do the same for your comfort and peace of mind.
But I have done tons of these builds and sold tons of these same rods and
pistons for 3TG with no problems
    ."

I'll double check that I haven't accidentally made a transcription error tonight.

Those are the same pistons that I have and I have eagle rods to go with them the valve relief question was one I had but planned to check the clearance multiple times before being happy. Good Luck on the build I am interested and will folow along. Be Safe

Anyone experimented with different cam profiles. A previous post pointed me to Camtech which offer 4 different types of grind (See here: http://www.camtechcams.com.au/toy_4cyl_2tg3tg18rg.html)
Apart from that I couldn't find much at all.

Also, what would be the cost associated with having camshafts reground? ballpark figure

Just like with any air pump the more efficient you make it the better just like you would do on an NA motor. The problem with a turbo motor is valve overlap. If you don't set the cams up correctly you blow the boost out the exhaust. If you are looking for an inexpensive set of cams look for a set of 2tg 222 cams. I had good results with them. I now use Cat Cams they are awesome. They are lighter than factory cams and much stronger. (billet not cast)

    Diz44zy,

I think YelloRolla has proven the cams can produce good power, if concerned about dynamic compression ratios that can be achieved based on your slightly high compression piston choice I would look at a head gasket thickness or possible removing some combustion chamber material (not much would need to be removed to bring it down to 8:1

May be cheaper than cams and provide more predicable result.

turbotoy, tell us more about your cams, compression ration and power achievements

Thanks 3jcelica. I had read a bunch of stuff already about the stock cams making good power. Part of the reason I was asking was to for my own concern (bringing the CR down). Ideally i would like it back down to 7.8. The other part was to see what other have done as I couldn't find any info on this. In saying that I would also like to hear turbotoy's experience with the 2tg 222s.
