Don't worry too much about bringing your compression down. It is pretty easy to turn the faces off the piston crowns (or the dome off) as long as the piston crowns have enough meat.

I was running 8.8:1 in my KE 20, pump fuel and 22psi without issue, but that head was a bit different and offered better squish than the 3T GTE, the combustion chambers were worked over to improve the flame propagation too (from a very back-yard perspective, but it worked).

I thought that the main issue with valve overlap was causing combustion residue to go back into the intake manifold, (turbine inlet pressure higher than intake manifold pressure) thus reducing the burn in the next combustion cycle.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

What was this like to drive? and what power were you making?

Will this be a huge issue for me? I know absolutely bugger all about this as you can tell :S
Why would Paradise Racing say they are fine, if this there is an issues with the valve reliefs? So confused

I recieved the eagle rods and ARP head studs today. Slowly getting there. Next task is to pull the engine out and have the build done if I ever get my car back from the panel beater.

The last time I talked to Paradise Racing he told me to ditch the 3tgte and use the 3tc because you can't make good power out of the 3tgte. I haven't talked to them or bought anything since.

The car was pretty good to drive, it was making boost from 1700rpm, full boost by about 4000 and it was making around 175rwkw at ~4-4500 and 210rwkw at ~5500. It held power to 7000rpm. It would strike the tyres from 3500 up.

There will be no issue - I will check the clearances if there appears to be any issue. Seriously, there is VERY LITTLE in the amount of valve relief required for one of these engines.

Gee that is an excellent outcome. Wouldn't mind this from my 3tgte.

Not familiar with this expression "strike the tyres" though

Strike the tyres = tyre spin, wheel spin, power skid etc.

Well let me remember. I had stock intake manifold, stock exhaust manifold, ct-20 with an upgraded super 60 compressor wheel, 8.5:1 compression, running .8 bar boost 276 rwhp and 270 torque with 222 cams. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do a before and after of the stock cams compared to the 222's.

I bought a head ages ago with a HKS exhaust cam,im not banking on finding an inlet one to suit so am thinking of trying to find somthing that will work well with the HKS item. Where should I start? Send it to someone to measure the lobes etc and then work out a suitable inlet cam profile?

All new to me so apologies if I sound like a knob!

I know where there is such an inlet cam!

Should I say I know where there is an HKS inlet cam to suit 3T GTE. I will ask the owner if he is prepared to part with it.

It would be way down the list of things I need to buy/ pay for yet but it would be good to know if said owner would like to part with it down the track.

    cheers

Hey guys ,w aht are you all doing in the way of individual coil packs? I vaguely remember people using 4AGZE ones or the like? Also whats the main benefit? Stronger spark = better ignition?

    cheers

    Riceburner,

I am using a 36-1 toothed wheel on the crank with a ford vr sensor, hyundai excell coil packs x2.

Main advanatges, no more dizzy in the way so better piping and manifold can be had, not running of cam so more accurate timing (no slack in gear/chain/bearings) which helps engine presivation at high boost. There maybe other advantages but they where my main reasons.

with two sparks plugs per cylinder the ignition/burn should be fairly good anyway

only other thing I can say is the engine loves it.

I use the turbo 4g63 Mitsubishi coil packs. We used to to get AWD Mitsu's deep into the 12 sec quarter mile with stock coil packs. I figured if they where good enough for that then two sets should be good enough for me!!!
