to be honest i used to use the spray poly as well years ago on the cobras and put it all over the body, but i have also been bitten by it as well. i have done a bit of tech with one of the paint manufactures and the results were that the poly goes to hard if left to thick and then eventually cracks.
Also most paint manufacturers wont warrant the job if it has spray poly used.
So in the end i would rather a job not come back by using it.

My cars underside and internal/cabin protection was pretty good, so I did not strip those areas.
    Gene,

Who was this person you found to do your work. I may look at getting the rally car soda blasted once the repairs are done as I need to do a full respray as the old Japan lacquer paint job is starting to bubble.

I know its a rally car but it should still look good while it can.

Every ounce of paint taken off the car will improve the power to weight ratio, go bare metal.

Casey-G, if you like that look, there is a product available that will replicate the rusty look without the inherent corrosion problems. The guys that want the rat rod look use the product. Kinda handy if you have a rare car, and would like it to last a few more years.

Stumpygt4, (AKA Lardass?) my lads boss has been on a 30kg weight loss program, to better suit the WRX rally car, so yeah do it. Make sure you take a dump before each event too.

    cheers Chuck.

Takai, just shoot a couple of coats of 2K primer, after all your prep work is spot on.

    cheers Chuck.

Primed the car yesterday afternoon and laid down the first couple of coats today:

Bloody hell it felt good to get some paint down. Going to let it dry for a few days, and then clean up the two runs i had and then hit it with another couple of coats

    Holy whale tail Batman!!

I think you need a few more lights in that shed... it's as dim as mine was when I bought the place. I ended up going from 2 double flouros to 11, and I still get too many shadows...

Takai... that wing strangely looks very similar to my seca's rear wing...

Top work btw, any tips or suggestions for the first time 2pac job painter like myself? do you have a heater or anything set up to run full time while it dries?

Nah, its a piece of piss really. Mix up spray on. I have two 2x500w floodlights on the job while im doing it, one on each side.

I turn the opposite one off while im spraying each side, too much glare otherwise.
