Default A simple O ring question...

    Hi all.

My AC in my JZ is leaking, my first thought is to change all those O rings.
Are there different O rings for different purpose? or can I use any typical O rings on the aircon lines?

    thanks all

specific type of O rings to cope with the gas you are using are required.

The orings are green and the material is HNBR i believe. Anything else will leak.

Color these days isn't a good indicator of material. Viton material used to come in green, brown, blue, yellow and black. All the same material but different hardness by color.

I'd go via an air con specialist, I've only seen black ones come out of them and theat could be anything from neoprene to buna N to viton to HDPE

An air con place should also have a leak tester and be able to narrow down where the leak is coming from

they look like normal black Nitrile. they might work if not, you have spares for everything else

usually O-rings are easier to buy by the piece from bearing shops...if they don't have the type you want they can usually order in... (i used to go through Hooper Bearings in mascot)

ah, I should've ask here first before purchasing it.

Went to super cheap and they only have an assorted packs with like 3 of eachs size total of 12
they told me that is all I will ever find because that is the only way they ever sell it anywhere. I am a fool for taking their words.

I always thought the green ones were neoprene.

Got a bunch from an air con guy - three different sizes, maybe 10 of each, on a cable tie (for free)

It never hurts to change all the O-rings, especially if they've been disturbed at some stage.

Best to have it leak tested after anyways... it will cost a few bucks more than just a gassing (which you will need to do after you change the orings) but you can easily pinch an oring or have a pinhole in a line.

EDIT: I agree with rollas, they look like standard Orings, or possibly high temp orings, certainly they dont look like specific AC ones. They specify that they work with oil and coolant, which isnt a good sign, as these fluids have different properties to AC gas/oil, and are likely to be able to destroy AC orings... seems some people will claim anything on e-ghey
