Im just wondering how to get the plastic cam cover off the 1zzfe motor. there are 2 nuts, and 2 plastic lugs? that hold it down.....Once you remove the nuts the
2 plastic lugs nearer the firewall keep it held down...how do you get them off?
I have a feeling i should be neg repped for such a question![]()

you mean the engine cover or the cam cover?
The engine cover should just come straight off after taking the bolts out from the top... not sure how different the cover is the the 2ZZ one but mine is piss easy to take off.
Here's a pic showing the engine cover. The 2 top bolts can be seen on the top, I'm not sure about the clips you are talking about at the back though. Someone may have a better pic from that side of the engine...
they are just 2 plastic clips just put your hands under the raised part of the cover and pull up
these clips always break though because they go directly onto the rocker cover and become brittle from the heat so order some new ones
looks like you have a jap corolla not a south african one .... lucky you
put your fingers where the arrows are and pull up

As above. Just serviced my gf's 2003 corolla and boy was it piss easy compared to my car. 'Cept for the fact that Toyota overtightened the oil filter as per usual.

Thanks heaps for the replies guys, its my old mans car and didnt want to stuff anything, even if they are just cheap clips...they sure are on tight though!
I downloaded a repair manual for this model (2004), but some parts look incomplete. Does anyone have a complete soft copy of a repair manual for this car?
is that the manual JP put up on rollamods.com?
should be fairly complete as there are a shit load of edits in it... the hard part is navigating to the correct section.
on the subject of south african and japanese models, which plant numbers are to be avoided? is there a list anywhere...?
we're looking at buying a camry sportivo, 2005-2006, id imagine it would be the same as rolla?

Um the Camry Sportivo's are built in Australia just like every camry sold here.![]()
If in doubt power out
japenese corolla chasis no will start with jt7 something
south african corolla chassis no will start with aht
avoid the south african corollas like the plauge they are a piece of crap
and your right all camrys sold in australia are built here
oh, fair enough.Originally Posted by 7MA61

the sportivo camrys are a good car not many probs at all but if you could stretch your budget go for a new aurion
they go pretty hard (for a toyota) and you wouldnt know they are front wheel drive unless you turn off the traction control witch can also be quite funny
if you get a camry make sure the steering rack isnt leaking or the timing cover if you get a 4 cyl
unfortunately with the Sportivos though, there isn't much of a choice... Love the 2ZZ-GE... hate the build quality of the car... I keep finding new issues everytime I do something now, latest was crossed threads on 2 of the 4 bolts in my passenger seat rails (took seat out to hide cables under the carpet).Originally Posted by ecotechilux
yeah theres heaps of probs like that but when you drive it the sound of the 2zz with an exhaust after 6500 makes up for the little probs like that
