Correct, gearbox is not low, its just that the engine is basically only 2 cylinders long so its hanging forward of the front wheels (like a backwards PorscheOriginally Posted by oldcorollas

Without removing the chassis rails & remaking them, or making a tube front end, there's no way it'll fit.
Sell to a Subie enthusiast, there's enough of them in SA, & the price is right.
Heck, if you weren't so far away, I'd be tempted.
cheers guys. found out the other night my mate knows the guys at Synergy Motorsports. as for the WRX engine, its the Sti version. so itd go mental in a TA23. as for all the fabrication, my mate is well connected. i mean, how many of you get a phone call on your birthday from Craig Lowndes???????????????

Im sure you will still have to pay for materials even if your mate knows someone who will do the welding for free. still wont be cheap.
but if you have 30K plus go for it.
i reckon oldcorollas idea of sticking the engine behind the seats with a transaxle box is the best so far![]()

I'm not going to try to talk you out of it.
If you want to cut up a perfectly good car to try to fit a motor that doesn't actually have that good a performance compared to the motors that will bolt in.
Good luck
I look forward to watching this project not go ahead.![]()

Seriously, there are much better motors around that are easier to fit, and wont cost much more in the overall project.

From a quick google the engine's dimensions are 540×810×640
thats bigger in every dimension than a KE10 engine bay between the towers!!Originally Posted by celica_john

I take it 810 is the width... are there any ancilliaries that sit aside the engine?? Or even spark plugs that are accessed from beside?? As these will add to the width, or become impossible to service without removing the engine.

pretty sure the spark plugs would be in the side......DOHC pretty much guarantees that
