    basically those two free pipes then attach straight into the back of the muffler

    yep, the muffler has a Y inlet...

    Thats not a stock setup though, from memory after the cats the two sides join into one 3" pipe with a resonator that travels down the trans tunnel until it splits into two again and through another two mufflers for each side...
