    I've got one too

Mine is a bit dinged up. They don't really have that much finned area when you take into account those hug end pipes. And at the price a 600x300 cooler is these days, why not

If you could get an aftermarket cooler made up so it has mounting tabs and pipe outlets the same as the factory one then i'd buy one. I'm only saying it because if that was something you were thinking of doing then getting two made the same would surely get us a discount of some sort.

I just finished installing a 450x300x75 with 2.5inch inlets into my mx73, using the factory jzx81 intercooler pipes and i was even able to use the drivers side rubber pipe to hook straight up to the intercooler, just had to get one pipe and it was done. The 450 size cooler was a huge improvement over the stock intercooler that i have been using for the last 6 months.
I tried to fit a 600mm core but could see no way to make the hosing work with the jzx81 pipe work.

How would you describe the improvement?
I found it had a fair bit more power after fitting the aftermarket cooler.
Go the 450mm, 600mm is too hard to plumb in, esp if you want to keep aircon. I had to cut holes in the car to fit my 600mm cooler.

Improvement was very noticable, big drop in heat soak over the stanard cooler, power is much more repeatable after several full boost hits and i can feel a power increase over the factory one.

I Ordered a 600 x 300 cooler for my cressy, however when it arrived i thought it looked a bit strange so i measured it and the core is actually 700 x 300 which i was worried about fitting especially because i still have the battery and abs in the front, but with using the factory piping and other 2.5in pipes i had lying around and a 2 holes i managed to fit it all in as per pic below

in the not to distant future i plan to relocate the battery and put 3in on the intercooler outlet side and put all the same type of pipeing on the othersite keeping 2.5in. it definatly needs a tidyup, once i get all the auto to dash wiring working of course. oh and i also should be able to keep all the aircon once i get the ac lines modified to fit.

I just made up a cardboard intercooler in 450 x 300 x 76 to test fit into MX83 and I think it will fit easily and retain the aircon etc as well as no cutting of the bumper support bar (which won't pass engineering if done -NSW). Just need 2.5" alloy piping kit off Ebay ($99.00) and a slim fan for the AirCon condenser and alls good. Will post picks when done.

Here are some pictures of my setup... Ignore the fact that the engine is pulled apart in some pics

As you can see, on the driver's side the pipework goes underneath the car in a sharp bend and then straight up in front of the turbo. Whereas on the other side there was a cutout made under the headlight.

The pipework on the passenger side has been modified slightly in between pics, but essentially its almost identical. Battery has been re-located to boot.

Ended up buying a 600x300 off of ebay. Will see how it goes. No big loss if it doesn't fit.

I have a 600x300 mounted upside down on mine, fits fine and made pipework easier for me to route.. I did enlarge the hole where the AC lines originally went on the passenger side and cut some metal where the headlight is on the drivers side which is perfectly fine in SA for roadworthy, might be a problem in other states however..
