my apologies, it just irks me to see someone posting random things they claim to be fact, when they seem to have not much idea.. every now and again we get someone coming on, claiming to know secrets and then not telling

I'll be getting conventional steel rods, I'd never use an aluminium alloy rod in a road engine. They'll fail sooner or later ...

yep damn straight ......... From what i understand of alloy rods they have a limited life span due to stretch.Originally Posted by Billzilla

yeh old mark 5 jags used to suffer from that alot theyd stretch till they go ping some last longer than others but as bill sez "sooner or later", nice and lite tho.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

on 3 1/2 lt or 2 1/2 lt straight 6 1949-1951 had steel and ally if you had ally ones, youd buy some steel ones for when they break

Bill: sounds like a good choice with the rods. I will look foward to seeing your results.
absently: got any more diagrams of F1 components? This diagram is close to a drawing I did of an ideal head I was thinking of, so its nice to know it works.

Re: Building up a mean F head
				thanks for that
also I might have someone going to South africa that can lookpit for a head to me, I need to find out which version they had and if they were any different than ours.

Re: Building up a mean F head
cam_ra40: do you have a link for those south african forums? I need to do some more research
Re: Building up a mean F head
Re: Building up a mean F head
				old thread dig-up time
I put together this diagram that people might find interesting
notice the valve angle, intake port shape and angle and the size of the combustion chamber
Re: Building up a mean F head
Re: Building up a mean F head
Having taken the below image from Billzila's site, why would you use a 4/7AFE head over a 20v head?

Re: Building up a mean F head
Re: Building up a mean F head
from my research alone, not my personal experience:
the 20v engines have a bad squish area size and shape, a 5v in inferior over a 4v in a bore thats 400c, valve angle is till too wide, intake path looks nice from that angle but its not that good, the shape is still far from ideal, list goes on. I can be more specific if needed. Also not relevant to me but 4age 20v engines are very limited in how wild a cam can be run.
Re: Building up a mean F head
Re: Building up a mean F head
squish area if i recall correctly turdinator...
something to be said for narrow angles hey.......remembering that F1 engines spend their times at stupidly high RPM..
