alarm run through the ignition?
hm...
Hey guys, i am a little baffed here. I know its not a toyota but if people could fire me sugestions to try I would love you guys rep wise.
Roommates 97 CE 1.8L Lancer was driving fine, she pulled off the road and stoped the car for a phone call, then it didn't want to start again.
symptoms:
The car cranks fine.
It has normal fuel pressure, and still pumps fuel.
It has spark.
We thought maybe the immobiliser was acting up but after pulling it out i have discovered it was not an immobiliser, but simply an alarm only. so thats out.
Tomorrow i have to check the plugs when i have light, and the tools to do so.
Any ideas people, please shoot things at me

Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
Sounds like an immobiliser.. Had the same symptoms with my car.. Fixed the immopiliser and it was fine.. Sorry not much help but yeah...
i hate to say it but generally when the car is cranking but no start. its immobilizer.
Also have a look At your spark plugs just to see if its flooded or not, if it has they will be black
Hasnt broken a cam belt has it" Might be able to look down oil cap and see if cam or rockers are moving, another giveaway is if it sounds "odd" when cranking. good luck.
if its auto its in park yeh?? not in gear lol
or check the negative terminal on the battery
sometimes tehy just come loose and ithe car dont start

if it was neutral start switch, car wouldnt crank at all.
could be a million and one things, from immobiliser, as you say there is none, but its actually illegal to sell/take delivery of a car without an immobiliser fitted. to ignition stuff like coil, ballast resistor etc. etc.
try some mitsoshitty forums to see if its a common problem.
Elmo.
bah its manual.
mitso forums don't help, they don't have tech help sections, they just have, "will these wheels and wings fit my car?"
ok, i might have a look and see if i can just rip the imobiliser right out altogether, the thing is if it is an immobiliser there is no cut wires anywhere, usually you have to cut the starter line

well i have ruled i think most things out now so i'd say it much be that stupid alarm thing, I don't wanna rip it out personally as like i said i can't find the cut wire to the starter system. I think dealer she bought it off installed it so we are gonna send it back under warrenty. the'll just have to pay the towing fee also.
cheers

Check the battery voltage when its cranking and make sure it doesn't go under 10v
When did they bring in this law, it's news to me. Maybe just a WA thing?Originally Posted by EldarO
If you have fuel pressure and spark then there is only a few other things to check.
Check to see if the injectors are firing and also check to see the spark plugs aren't fouled.
Has it been serviced regularly/ lately?
Remember, an engine needs three things to fire, Fuel, compression and ignition. If you have these three, then the engine should start.
Good luck with it.
