    Default aftermarket speedo in ae86

hello, just wondering what would be the procedure of fitting like a splitfire speedo in a ae86. i know it;s a mechanical cable, but is there anyway to make an elec gauge work? even if i get a mech gauge, how can i calibrate it? reason for asking is i want to make a custom dash.
    thanks

I believe you can get a kit from Jaycar that reads the mechanical cable and sends out an electronic signal.

After a quick search of the Jaycar site it seems there's none there. But I remember a thread on the old toymods saying something about a mechanical to digital converter, give that a shot.

And no, you'll probably have to adjust the converter, but the speedo itself will tell you exactly what the converter is telling it. I believe it would probably be pretty easy to set the converter. I'm pretty sure its ~637RPM of the speedo cable = 1kmph.

The UZS131 Crown has an electronic speedo sender which just clips onto the speedo gear. Jaycar don't sell one of these, but they do sell a corrector for them, costs about $45.

Apparently sideshow usually has one to two at least of the senders kicking around at any one time.

    Hope that helps.

Where did you get the Splitfire gauge from?

    Is it in km/h?

    Is it a 6" gauge?

Do you have a close up pic of it, please!

VDO have a convertor also, bolts on top of the std speedo drive. can have multiple outputs as well.
their speedos are programmable for rolling diameter, gear rartios and so on also AFAIK.

Just go get an electronic speedo sender from any wreckers. AE101, AE111, MX83, most Camrys and others will do just fine.

The speedo will have a corrector in it if its a decent one.

    For stock T50, you can bolt-on;
    * Nissan (pulsars) (4 pulse per rev - from memory)
    * Crown/Cressida (Some have, some don't - generally the digital dash ones do) come in 20 ppr and another i can't remember.

Choose the sensor that would get closest to what the spitfire accepts. The more ppr, the more accurate the readings. If the pulses are way off, you may need a speedo multiple. Note that the jaycar one is limited to +/-100%. If you need more they can get pricey unless like electronic stuff.
