If nothings wrong with the existing motor I would suggest to get another box and leave the motor alone, but if you want more power then the only way to go is an engine swap with a 3SGE or even better but alot more $$$ a 3SGTE.
hey guys
a mate of mine has a st162 and he has the usual camry motor(3s-fe) in it with an auto, his auto has just pooped its self and was after another box but was wondering would it be worth swapping the engine aswell in one unit or keep the engine and strap it up with the box,
also does anyone know the part number of the auto box that they came out with originally
cheers

keep it standard, sell it and buy something better/faster/RWD straight up. Will be better as its original, doesn't need engineering and will be cheaper for insurance. Trust me on this.
ok, standard it is, this is his daily, he already has his soarer and kingsy for his weekenders,
anyone know the name of the standard box

please tell me you're buying a manual gearbox? no one willfully drives an auto
best way to tell what to do is see what's on offer. and what kinda cash he has. if you find an engine and a gearbox and can afford it, go for it. if there's nothing wrong with the engine he has now, unless you increase power, there's not point changing it. waste of money.

just one of many engines he could consider. see what's out there and then make the decision based on options and cash available.
