1jz map sensor info

does anyone know if the turbo pressure sensor [the one that looks like a map sensor] i think its the one that runs the boost guage on a jza70, will work as a map sensor. the only reason that i ask is that is all i can get hold of . cheers bigwad

no I don't know. As I said, any map sensor will do as long as it is a 2bar unit. Some holdens have 2 bar units and I am sure that other toyotas would as well. Just change the plug on it and whack it in.

Otherwise, put up a wanted thread on here, soarercentral & alsc forum as I am sure people who get ecu's don't need their old ones

i also was going to try this..

the stock guage is pretty much useless at anything over 6-7psi, so im betting the boost sensor doesnt go anything over that either.

the plugs are different, but it works in the same way, as in, reading boost and vacuum.

you could test it by getting two multimeters, one on each signal wire, three lengths of hose, a T peice, join the two sensors together, then see if they vary at all in voltage while you blow/suck the hose, or, if your not ghetto, an air compressor.

all depends... Toyota are charging $550+ for a new one or $380 if u know someone who works there

I bought one for $20 lastweek (lucky find, but not sure if it was the right one), wreckers charge about $240

Anyone ever had a 1JZ map sensor die on them?
Just have a spare at home here in case mine ever plays up, but if they are worth a bit of money I could sure use the cash for rego right now.

ive never heard of one dying, but "Areokabn" here in perth seems to be having problems with his, im yet to get around to his house to have a look at it, but i have a sneaking suspicion that the sensor is fine, and its just the after market gear hes got on it playing up.

i heard that the JZA70 one is better than the JZX81 one, more resolution, if so, would it be beneficial to run one, make mine smoother etc

Which is which? My car has a map sensor with an orange sticker, and my spare sensor has a green sticker.

mine is JZA70, yellow/orange sticker.

boost guage is green though.

they both have the same description on the sticker though.

First I had heard that they were different. jzx81 and jza70 have interchangable ecu's so I wouldn't have thought there would be any difference between them. Braden, disable your FCD, run 16psi and see if both of them hit boost cut. If you could be bothered testing.

I've run the orange one ever since I got the car, and it always hit boost cut well before 16psi before I fitted the FCD. I think you are right about the ECUs, there shouldn't be a difference!

ok guys i have just tried that boost guage sensor as a map sensor and it wont let the engine start . the correct one for my 1jz going by the part no is the green one that ribfeast has in the photo of above.
