Easy replacement for 18rg

Was wondering if anyone could suggest any engines to replace a dead 18rg without to o much or any modifications
I'd love another but they never come up

Replacing the 18RG is obviously the easiest thing to do,O Man RA23 has an 18RG for sale. 18RG for sale

Any other engine will more than likely be EFI and more powerful which means at the least, upgraded brakes and wiring, engineering, potentially diff and tailshaft etc, the list goes on.

The cheapest engine upgrade is a 1G of some description (either N/A, turbo or supercharged). This particular engine swap has been done a million times so there are plenty of articles out there and heaps of people to help.

It sure is, and it's en route to Norbie's garage as we speak.

As for the original question, the only easy replacement for an 18R-G is another R series engine. And if you swap in anything but another 18R-G you'll be going backwards. So my advice is get another 18R-G or step up to something newer and more powerful - the 1G being a good suggestion.

wait till river gives you the long and short of why the 18RG is toyotas best engine, and all the new engines they develop are drawn off the 18RG's specs because its so damn good

Yeah, my motor is gone thanx to norbie... shoulda got in quicker and offered CASH. But yeah, unless you plan for major mods, go the 18RG... or rebuild your existing one, unless you threw a conrod or something stupid. New oversized pistons are still available, and the average home mechanic can do a great job of rebuilding an 18RG if they put their mind to it. Whatever you do, dont just ditch your old RG, as the motor will be good for sumone, or good for parts if its been mangled, and parts for RGs can be quite rare, especially the auxillary shaft.

nuthin wrong with chucking in a 18rc for the time being. they are far from powerful but will do the job, even if its just in the mean time till you grab another RG.

the 18r singlecam'ers came in a few cars so its not usually any hassle to find one.

RA23/28/40 celica
RN4x/RN2x hilux's
RH?? hiaces

what do the rg's come in. cause i want to find one, but to find one out of an ra23-28 is hell tricky... unfortunately... so wat other cars can i look for with one...

mostly the GT celicas (RA25/RA45etc) had them and possibly a couple import coronas.

i think most of the engines were imported on their own from japan rather them being taken out of cars here

Yes, the GT Celicas (RA25, RA23, RA28, RA35) had 18RG engines. The 18RG also changed throughout its production. From earliest to latest they are 18R-G, 18R-GR, 18R-GU, 18R-GUE. In order of most powerful (stock from the factory) is 18R-G, 18R-GR, 18R-GUE, 18R-GU. I'm not sure when the 18R-GU and 18R-GUE came out but they were in the RA28 and the RA35 and late model RA23s.

The 18RG engines were also in the GT Corona.

Your best bet would be to check Jap importers. They occasionally have the odd 18RG engine up for sale. Or you can try the "Wanted" section on this forum and hope someone is selling one.

Well jason, you dipped out on mine, had the opportunity. 1GGTE is a good motor, but you do have to put some work in to get them into place. 3TGTE is another popular motor to put in, with a TA23 xmember they are an easy bolt in. But yeah, i think somebody needs to give witzl a prod and tell him to stop stealin all the RGs.
