I should do my drivers do really. I originally fixed it by repalcing the pin with a heavy bolt which has fixed it. But should put on the new ones I got but its such a damn pain, as the bolts holding hinges on are tight and rounded![]()
i wrote this for ae86drivingclub originally, but i thought the sprinter fans here would appreciate nice closing doors too.
hinges from these cars work. all front hinges, no back hinges
AL2# tercel 4wd
AE86 der
SV1# the boxy looking camry, the ones that weren't apollos
MS12# crown
got to yer yard, find one, remove, fit, profit, grin when your door shuts nice biggrin.gif
tips and details:
1. tercels are best, cos they have short doors = less weight = less wear
2. on the donor, pull the check pin out(check assemblt holds the doors open on hills) off so you don't have to juggle the door. Just tap it out from underneath.
3. When fitting to your car, pull the guard off, take your time so you don't ruin your paint.
The antenna will get stuck, cos it's bolted to the car and connected to the guard.
Do one hinge at a time, the other hinge will hold it in place, do the top one first. Open and close it, if it's good, don't get greedy and fit the lower one, cos you will have alignment issues.
If it's not good, get a folded t-shirt/rag and close the door on it, doesn't have to fully close, so it lifts up the back edge of the door. About under the door handle, and about 4-8 thickness of material is good. You want the door to sit a little higher than the rear quarter along the crease line.
Now fit the lower hinge, if you do it this way you should be ok for alignment.
Take your time cos you only have to do this once every 10 years.
took me about hour to do, but i've stripped a few sprinters so i know where all the bolts are.
goodluck with it ae86 fans![]()
