I dont have a 3rz, I have a 2rz (which is nearly identical -.3 L on displacment), but with a nearly sotck long block(only upgrades are headstuds and a metal headgasket), I am pushing 380hp/380tq to the wheels at 22lbs. You have to be careful with the timing, as this motor is prone to detonation, but if you clear that up, there is power to be made in stock form. My ultimate goal before a rebuild is 500hp on the stock motor.
Hi Atomic Speedware do a set of arias pistons & rings. 8.5cr for under $500 US under $650 landed, head gasket $80 US Help me with specs of your motor ,im on a steep learning curve. What head mods, fuel pumps, injectors, max advance at 22psi, cr, exhaust pipe size etc etc. 380rw sounds good, whats it in. Rod
ochizon, im curious to have a look at your ignition map if you dont mind, and peak ignition advance, as im thinking ignition is what killed mine...
also does the 2rz have balance rods? youd think so being the same motor as the 3rz really, do you think youll run into problems with the balance rods at 500rwhp? i guess its unchartered territory.. with good tuning i guess anything is possible..

can,t see how the balance shaft would know what hp the crank is putting out, maybe they have probs above std revs, anyone know?Originally Posted by BeRad
well im making close on 400rwhp with my 3rz, and its still stock bottom end as far as i know. balance shafts and all...
people generally disable them because they chew up HP because of rotational weight.

im looking at removing the decompression plate, and replcing it with a 2 or 3mm thick custom multilayer steel from Cometic. with ARP head studs to keep the head on.
Im only pushing 20psi, with no knock, and a mother load of advance, with 550's at 100% I reckon there is still more in it.
Depends if the car sells or not will depend if i go further. its just silly on the street. Would like to change it to an auto... i dunno can't make my mind up.

These guys love the 2rz/3rz, they have 3mm cometic headgaskets for $149USD. ARP Headstuds for $140USD, and adjustable cam gears...
I'm almost tempted to keep the ute now.....

buzz engines who built the 00lux00, told me that the balance rods let go on the 00lux on a stock engine pushing 450hp destroying the block, when it was pulled down the pistons were fine and the rods were bent from the rods letting go.... so they say.....

Sweet conversion mate.. be sure to post when you have the next update.
back at redlands i always had to straighten the balance shafts, they would get a bend in them just behind the fron bearing surface, which would shit hte bearing and/or put a huge wobble in the gear causing a chain failure

ding dong maybe my problem was what mr dohc mentioned. and when the chain fails? the engine becomes out of control balance wise.. which isnt much chop when the engine is under alot of load.
since youve worked with them before? to disable them what needs to be balanced so it doesnt explode.

coulda pumped swarf into the oil galleries causing bearing failure in the rods, hence, boom = rods
