if that were the case id consider it a bonus not that id be able to tell the difference but as it is i would expect 8.7's or 9.2's a set of series 1 cams would be freakin sweet as well not easy to tell unless its cracked open

Personally I would hold out for a known engine with known internals to crop up... but then again I can afford the extra these days (though I did pay $1000 for a known engine with some broken pieces in bits back in the days when I had feck all money... and didn't know what I was looking for...)

i figure its worth the gamble either way cant be much worse than the one ive got atm which is still a bit vauge low down i havent had time to mess around with it. did take it for a spin around the block to make the brake problems surface and its possibly overfueling and once its shut off it backfires in the exhaust a few seconds after guess its due to the vapours lighting off on the extractors after a even a quick round the block run they get red hot really quick

At $300 or slightly more its worth the buy. take the cams out and have them reground, they should be the adjustable ones. highly unlikely 9.7cc oversized pistons. You can slowly fixer up as the funds come in.

sent the seller a message they rekon its running original internals.
the plan was possibly introducing it to an sc14 at some point which would be quite fun

it looks like like the head my have been done recently

as it appears to have an SW motorsports or Modified 4ME upper timing chain tensioner at the least maybe the timing chains have been done

but did something happen to damage the bottom end?????

ask the seller to take a plug out in No 1 pot with the engine at TDC and using a dowel of some sort drop it down the hole and messure to the top of the cam cover

then compare this messurement to a known RG bottom end with STD pistons this will give you a ruff idea of what pistons it might have

Hey again guys, i'm trying to do my wiring but i'm a numpty, i've got power to accessories and can turn over the motor now YAY! I have a single dizzy trigger wire from the harness, but the dizzy side has 2 wires coming off it. Are they just power and earth, or is the second one for something else? Also, I have a used gt40 coil, and no resistance reading comes up on the secondary coil when it should have 10-13 ohms. Does this mean its rooted? Also, none of my spark leads give any reading or light up the test light, does this mean they are all rooted too? I have no idea about electrical, been reading through 3 different manuals to get this done :-/

Ah I don't have another, have to go buy one I guess. Do you know about the trigger wire, whether the second wire on the dizzy is just an earth or something else? Thanks for the quick response

Dood, need more details. I.e. what do you actually have? Electronic/points dizzy? Module? Take pics.

Take a photo of your dizzy with no cap on. 2 wires sounds like it is electronic. If it were points, there would be a condensor on the side, with a wire going to a bolt coming out of the side of the dizzy, which then gets the black wire from the coil -tve. If it is electronic, then you need an ignitor which should have a matching plug.

Yeah it was electronic, the dickhead I bought the motor off said it was turn key ready, had no ignitor, broken and welded upper tensioner, no cam cover gasket, carby's not rebuilt, missing parts all over. Changed the dizzy back to points (crazy I know but i'm figuring out this shit as I go, on a tight budget). Got it running yesterday, just gotta time it and tune the carby's. Anyone know where to get the vacuum gauge for the carby's? Are the motorbike ones ok?

just in case anyone needs info like this... i found a toyota document that shows the 18R-GEU was manufactured and sold in the Corona RT141 from Jan 1982 until October 1982.

    http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/...jdm%20list.gif

This is particularly important to me, as im fitting an 18R-GEU into a 03/82 KE70 Corolla.... and need some evidence to prove the engine is same age/newer than the car.
Damn fucken handy bit of info!!!
    ...... butt scratcher?!
