For shims, we just went through this place for a set.

The shims looks bloody great, we mixed up the order, but the quality of product is good and he machined them to our specified sizes
We ordered 14mm shims, which I think were available from 2.5mm to 5mm in 0.05mm increments.
They were about $9 each. Toyota had them for about $8 each last I checked, but the sizes were hard to get for reground cams.

Also Shim paper will do the job just got 2 150mm x 150mm sheets at .010" thickness for $6.00 per sheet make as many as you like.
Cheers Brett.
When there's only 8 valves... $9ea is a damn cheap price to get the perfect sized shims!
Thanks for the contact details Steve!
oh yeah.... whilst our pistons are out on show....

they should be very close to the 8.7:1 compression, which is what the stock piston on the left is.

Turbo flutter. : Its like a burp and a hiccup at the same time.
Sam, the bottom one is the same...and one of the top ones can be bent to suit the rg.
plenty of info earlier in this thread posted by smarter people than me..![]()
cheers leso
Leso,
Been moving at night, the big move is tomorrow, I have at least 4 ppl from work coming, 2 trailers and a ute (maybe more). Gonna be a barby when we are done. When are you coming up for a fishing trip??
Oh, and I dunno about bending a chain guide, I just dont think of it as good practice as you can get a kink which will wear quickly and destroy everything.

yeah did the bendy thing on top inlet guide..looks ok.. but im spewing that i didnt get it original rebonded at the same time as my upper exhaust side guide....I was unsure of the quailty and cost at that time...oh well live and learn.. it's a bit like moving into a new house....in 3yrs you look back and say why did i paint the lounge room THAT colour...

I spent ages slowly bending mine so that it would be as smooth a curve as possible.
It actually lines up with the chain better than the original guide did. There is even concact over the whole slipper, rather than mostly at the bottom and little at the top end.
Now that I know about the place that can re bond them, I reckon I'll get my collection of old guides repaired.
