I only ask because I spoke to someone a few weeks back from TCCQ who was getting some done for a 3TGTE.... let us know how they go, might eventually need some 18RG ones myself.

Anyway, out getting new gearbox seals and a spigot bearing for the RG, when I thought stuff it I'll go to my local wreckers anyway. I asked the guy again in person, he said nope don't have anything. Thought stuff it so I walked down the yard, fourth car down the toyota isle was an MS123 Crown with a complete 5ME. Took out the Upper Tensioner and its exactly the same as the one that was in my 18RG... Guess these guys just don't think it is worth a walk to check out their cars for a $15 part.

So yes anyway, just like to say that an M series upper timing chain tensioner does fit an 18RG if anyone needs a replacement.
ok...i know im slow...found a couple of 5me engines at the wreckers today...but i couldnt see any tensioner..maybe im going blind...can anyone tell an old man with failing eyesight where they are located on the 5me engines

They'll be hidden down there somewhere on the drivers side of the engine, same as the 18RG.

Make sure its not the 5MGE belt driven twincam you're looking at... must be the SOHC.

    Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about doing a rebuild on the 18RGEU, has anyone had any experiences with aftermarket pistons and cams?

I'm wanting to build a pretty tough RG, 9.7 - 10.5 comp with 280 - 320 cams, 45mm DCOE's etc. I know Wade Cams do some, and Arias might be able to do some pistons. Has anyone imported some cams/pistons from Toysport in the states? Apparently they use Venolia pistons. They sound pretty good.

Just wanting to know what my options are at this stage. I know everyone's heard this question about 100 million times, but any advice would be much appreciated

    Cheers,
    Ren.

Get price on those pistons and cams from toysports but also get a price on getting some custom cams made up by a good cam grinder i.e wade cams plus custom pistons the price might not be that different and your dealing with locals.

following a link on CCC website, led me to a company that was apparently doing TRD 18RG parts.

I asked them what parts they stocked and the response was

"We'll start KAMEARI products sales in late April in the U.S., but in the meantime we can process international orders. The shipping costs will depend on your exact address (postal code) and the products, and their quantity. We're in the process of designing our web site, and anticipate it's launch in April. Available parts for the 18RG are adjustable campulleys, headgaskets, high compression pistons, carburator intake manifold, and light weight flywheel. Please let us know if you have any questions."

I thought I'd get prices and specs for gaskets and pistons, but they are a little too pricey for me considering they are in USD and not including shipping.

    Pricing is as follows:

18RG 2200cc High Compression Piston Kit $682. Available in 92mm and 92.5mm bores.

    18RG headgasket 92mm bore.
    1.0mm $231
    1.2mm $242
    1.5mm $252
    2.0mm $284
    2.5mm $315
    3.0mm $336

They did not say what type of pistons they are, or whether they are genuine TRD parts (that might just be a chinese whisper), but for some people, they might be worth considering so I thought i'd put it out there.

Their email is info"at"kameariusa.com, and their website is www.kameariusa.com
I just got the same response from them today, LOL.

We can get custom pistons over here for about $500 US a set. Head gaskets run $50 - $100.

For the chain guides/slippers there is a guy over here working on a gear setup to replace the guides. He's one of our "Witzl's" as far as 18RG's goes, so I'm confident they'll be reliable. It won't happen short term, as he want to test them out before offering any to the public. I'll be sure to let you guys know of any progress.

Also, I searched my arse off trying to find the thread where 3TGTE slippers were compared to the 2TG ones. It had pictures too. Anyone able to direct me?

    Thanks,

    Eric

Gday all, thought I would come back as soon I am likely to be the owner of an 18RG powered RA28 (source not to be disclosed yet). Anyways, there is a good company up here that specialises in polyurethane products, so it might be worth me getting them to give a price on refurbishing the timing guides. If I can get it done for a reasonable cost, I will let people know. Anyways, good to see this thread is alive and well since I left it 7 or so pages ago (I have 50 posts per page). Will let you all know if I get the beast.

    Hi,

18R-G.... finally you'll get some respect and cred in these forums. I can't beleive you actually made over a 1000rep points without owning such a fine engine!

I got a set of fully custom 18RG pistons made up through Atomic Speedware (Nick Arias III of the Arias Piston family)
Specs: suit 350hp,10.5:1CR suit 22R crank, suit +.020" Nissan KA24 rings, 89.5 bore, big valve, extra cut out depth and really HD tool steel pins.
They worked out to $612.48US including freight from the US to South Australia. (No rings included)
Made to suit a mixture of uses including huge came and a shitload of boost.
They look awesome, really good job done on them.
The sales service was excellent too.
I tried contaacting Toysport, but they really don't seem to care about international orders.

    PICSORBAN!

I am wondering why you had them made in the USA? Witzl's were done in Victoria.
I can see that you may have saved some $$$. Is that the reason?

Perhaps they were a less risky item, coming from Arias, you know what the quality will be like.
