This is my last weekend to solve my cutting out problem, before toyfest.
I have a feeling that in the rebuild a while ago that maybe the pump drive shaft which turns the dizzy is out by a tooth or 2.
If the cams are set correctly and the crankshaft is set at TBC, could the dizzy after a few rotations not align, therefore not fire?
Keeping in mind, that the dizzy is set up at 10 deg BTC and the rotor about to fire...this has been adjusted as testing also.
    see the diag attached..

on a normal 18R its a little bit of an issue as the dizzy shaft is keyed to the oil pump and if you have a
dizzy with the retainer bracket cast as part of the housing you can only turn it so far but in my
experience if you have a dizzy with the seperate clamp you can rotate it 360deg and position it to
compensate its even easier on an 18RG as the dizzy isnt tied to the oil pump.

i have seen dizzys turn while an eng is running but due to not being fastened proper

provided the mechanical cam/piston/crank timing is correct then it should be possible to adj
the dizzy to suit even a cast bracket dizzy (just have to take it out and turn a tooth)

Zammo, going by what you mentioned. If all is setup correctly, really it shouldn't matter. if the dizzy at TDC is about to fire, then all is good.
Damn. then it seems thats not my problem. Ill go back and check the loom.

    Hey Guys,

Attached are a couple of photos of the oil pump on my 18RGU and remote oil filter. Is this a standard set up?

What's pictured isn't your oil pump, that's in the sump.

What you have is not standard, someone has fitted a relocation kit at some point in the last 35 years.

Can't be dry sump. There isn't a storage tank. Just an old dodgy filter relocater.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

No dry sump. It has the normal centre bowl sump. Why dodgy? Should I get rid of it?

Personally I would be re mounting it and get some new hoses to make it look tidier.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to ask all of you seasoned 18rg fans a question in regards to the EFI version and the amount of boost it can handle on stock internals? I have been searching this 260 page thread for "stock efi boost" details and seems most of you are way built up! My plan is to run a 3TGTE ECU (which I'm currently looking for) with the 4agze injectors and t3 turbo with full 3" exhaust.
Thanks in advance for any guidance
    -Nick
