why even have a ballast resistor?
All it does it provide a fatter spark during cranking.... but if you have electronic ignition it's not really required.

I never had one after i swapped to electronic ignition (from 22R-E/21R-C)

Per Witzl, remove said ballast resistor, terminate the start wire into an insulated blank, and use the ign wire to power your coil/ignitor.

I bought this fuel pump a while back for my 18RG, it was advertised as an original 18R item, but have since been told that it is the incorrect pump for the engine, can anyone confirm this? If it is right, how does it connect up?

    hI,

without the spacer, the fuel pump will last all of about 2secs. Trust me

We didnt even fit it, I was told it was the incorrect pump.
Can anyone post up pics of their 18R/C/G pumps?

Then you dont have an 18rg but an 18rgu. Time for a low pressure electric pump.

Not sure if my spare shaft has the eccentric, but I think it does. If somebody is in desperate need of one, let me know.

Hi comp 18R-Gs don't like turning over even when they are used regularly.

Would any damp air been able to get into the cylinders or inlet/exhaust ports?
Surface rust could be slowing the cranking. Bores and valves could suffer from this.
Lack of oil remaining on the bearing surfaces could provide unwanted friction too.

It might be worth squirting some oil onto the timing chain dampers through the head inspection plate just to protect them if they've dried out.
Try starting it on a bit of 98 octane 40:1 two stroke mix (fill the carby bowls with it, not the fuel tank!). That should help lube up a few things in the top end and the cylinders until it starts up and the oil pressure rises.

Spray something thin and lubricating (and flammable) into the bores to help reduce friction.

I seem to recall someone recently asking where to buy replacement valves for their 18RG.....

... well I remembered where i bought my last set!! I bought them from Sleeka Spares in SA.
They were listed on Ebay, but i seem to recall they had plenty of them. I was in need of a set of exhaust valves at the time (i bent one when i put the head on the ground with an exhaust valve open).

Ebay store - Sleeka Spares items - Get great deals on TA22, 18RG items on eBay Stores!

Also.... in case someone is interested, there is a set of ARP rod bolts for an 18RG on ebay too. $80 buy it now.

Witzy, that was me asking about the valves, and I ended up finding them with SWMotorsports. Stainless at $22ea.
