Looks like you would spend just as much making this fit as buying a decent turbo locally and all the parts and making it fit. I wouldn't trust the FPR for starters...

yeh, i looked closer and there's so many items ie. intercooler, piping, manifolds plus more that will still need custom work. i would probably have most of these items left over anyway.
    I'll pass.

For $1200 you can get a reasonable Garrett or HKS or KKR turbo, plus chinese Intercooker and chinese intercooker piping kit, plus all flanges and gaskets... the rest of the stuff in that kit is junk anyway (BOV isn't actually required - many cars run quite happily without them)

    Hi all,
I bought an 18RGU recently, 88253. It came with a spare head that I'd like to work and I'd just like to know what route I need to take.
I've contacted Camtech regarding cams and they got back to me saying that they only do regrinds for 18RGs. Does anyone know of some ready to purchase aftermarket cams for these motors? I'd prefer a straight drop in part...

Hi 18rg-18rgr-18rgu-18rgue pretty much the same cams just different profiles and the older ones had different cam sprockets but you could interchange cams so camtech will work.

Finding a cam which will just drop stright willl be a little hard because they are shim and bucket for valve clearance so 9/10 times you have to shim the cams to suit your head. No big deal who ever does your head can shim the cams to fit. I

If you go to an engine builder and they have troubles finding shims, Precision Shims can make them to suit the 18R-G in suitable increments.

Bugger. I didn't get any re-coated after I rang the company up and they couldn't see why Toyota would use soft material for chain dampers.

Slippers: Buy a single cam one and alter the curvature (carefully of course) to match the profile of the twincam one. This is a really easy job if you've got a vice, basic hand tools and any sort of ability to use them.

Other guides: I don't have any solutions for those.

    Help wanted in Victoria!!!!

I want to bid on something on eBay but it's a "local pick-up only" in Hughesdale 3166, Victoria (eastern suburb in Melbourne). The problem is that I don't know anyone in Melbourne who can pick it up and post it to me.

Is there anyone here who would be able to pick it up and send it via AusPost Parcels?
It may need to be sent in two parcels to ensure that it is less than 20kg.

I would not ask you to pick up anything illegal, it is all legit, I just need help.

Please PM me if you can help.

(I will only bid on it if I can find someone to pick it up and post it to me).

    Cheers guys and girls.

Of course I will pay for the freight and am willing to compensate for fuel usage to collect it. (within reason).

Thanks Ian, that link is a huge help!

I just checked them out and it will cost me $30ish for overnight courier.

    I'll go through them.

    I have a bit of a problem.. I recently baught a ra23 fitted with a 18rg engine with dellorto 45 carbies.

the car is tired but sound.engine starts and runs ok

I am weighing up wether to restore the car with the 18rg or remove and sell it and do the beams swap.

what I want to know re the 18rg is it easy to get parts still. how do they respond to turbo charging etc. I am not after mega numbers just something thats not gonna be a heaADACHE.

    Hi,

Regarding the 18R-G throttle ball-joint (yeah, I know what you mean) you can try and PM Rodger. He may have one or know where you may be able to get one.

As far as the previous post... putting a BEAMS into an RA23 is not a trivial affair. Beautiful engine, though.

However, owning a nicely turbo'd 18R-G (in an RA28), I can assure you they respond very well to some forced induction. I'm running a baby turbo (GT25) on mine and she's pulling 160+ rwkW.

You can still get a lot of parts for 18R-Gs.

I think I will stick with the 18rg and force feed it . I was also thinking GT25 Turbo on a steampipe manifold.

I would love to convert it to fuel injection though blow through is also an option.
