questions:
What heat range spark plug to use with nitrous? Currently using NGK Bkr7e's at .7mm gap. I think another popular type with my engine is BPCes or something like that?
Do people turn their nitrous off just before the rev limiter. I am not too sure about how the soft and hard limits are used in the microtech but I have read that if you hit the rev limit on stock ecu and it cuts the fuel then you will run into a lean condition. I was thinking of activating at 3000rpm and turning off at 7000rpm. I change at about 7300rpm usually and have soft cut at 7500rpm.
I am using a wet kit. I was going to run the recommended fuel and n2o jets and start with (25hp most likely) the aux input set at -2 retard and +5% fuel just in case. I was then going to slowly bring the fuel back down if it was safe. (I would think it would be if I am using the recommended jets)
I understand that in normal tuning, majority of power can be gained with timing. Rule of thumb for nitrous being retard timing extra 2 deg for each 50hp shot. So with this in mind, what target AFR should I aim for? I usually aim for around 11.8:1 on boost. I am currently using BP 98RON and Martini Super Boost.
Thanks
Chris
Also, only running15psi at the moment. Probably go to 17psi or so because of the nitrous though.
Just found this. Don't know if the bkr7e's are suitable. Better check the ground strap. The wrong heat range can cause an overheated plug or a fouled plug. The heat range refers to the temperature 0f the ceramic material surrounding the center electrode.
The misfire is not due to the heat range. The misfire occurs because the ground strap of the spark plug becomes a glowing ember because it is too long to dissipate the extra heat produced by a nitrous-accelerated burn condition. The correct fix for this phenomenon is to replace the plugs with one that has a shorter ground strap. You can use the same heat range, you just have to find a non-protected nose plus with a shorter and preferably thicker ground strop.

Id be going closer to a 8-10 heat range plug, or if we are talking champions then a 55 57.
Why more boost with nitrous? Id be more inclined to run less.
Try a "ZEX" plug. Im rather sure that NGK "R" plugs are made for a similar purpose having a shorter fatter ground strap.
Thanks Shane. Have you always used those plugs? I would have thought a 7 heat range would have been required at minimum as 6 is stock heat range. If they work for you, they should work for me
AFAIK nitrous naturally increases boost levels. 17psi isn't very much for my engine with a good tune.
I am still looking for Jetting info. But apparently a 50hp shot should have a .033" or 33 nitrous jet and about a 22 fuel jet. I am getting varying info. So I think if I go with the safest one and then put 5% extra on the microtech that should be a good start.
Fair enough, I thought you were intending to run more boost mechanically rather than chemically.Originally Posted by chris davey
minimum octane rating
So I intend on running 15psi through a Hypergear TR44 (like GT3076) on my 1jz-gte and a 50shot of nitrous initially. I am expecting to make around 260rwkw or so.
What is the minimum RON fuel I should run? I currently run 98RON + octane booster which is 100.1RON.
If I was to raise the nitrous jet to 100hp and leave the boost at the lowest setting would the 100RON fuel be enough.
I would like to run Martini 102 or Martini 110 in a 50/50 mix with 98RON. These are a lot more expensive that my current mix of 98 + superboost
which only costs about $44 for 20L.
Also, if the boost goes up with a 50shot would it go up more with a 100shot?
good thread chris...I too am considering nitrous on my 2JZ, get past that 300rwkw figure with the stock turbos
mine are already at 17psi...if the nitrous brings the boost up is it putting the turbos more at risk of going kablammy and dropping wheels?

I would think so but I am a newb as well![]()
Another question. Here is a pic of my cooler piping. I am aware that the nozzle for a wet system should be 6 - 8" from the throttle body. As you can see, the throttle body is 4" long and then I have a silicone bend. So it would end up being about 10-12" away and after a bend or 4" away minimum. What is the best thing to do?
Also, I got some spare jets with the kit. He said some were 25hp and 75hp. I can see that they are slightly different but how am I supposed to tell exactly what they are? Some of them have some numbers on them, 1,3,25 I have seen. I would have thought they would either have the number per size like 33 for a .033" or 25 would equal 25hp. But that doesn't really help as you don't know if it is for fuel or n2o.

Anybody here run nitrous besides Shane and Grant?
i dont have thread tape anywhere on my system

i've been told that if you use thread tape, it can come off and block the lines, which would cause a real nasty leanout if it happens to be on a fuel line...

loctite white pipe sealer....
thanks people.
I found out that wet kits are actually supposed to be 6-18" away from TB so I am mounting on cooler pipe. However, I don't think the thickness of the pipe is enough that you could tap a thread into it so we were thinking of getting a nut of the same thread and welding it to the cooler pipe. Apparently the thread these nozzles use is a special gast fitting so bolt shops or enzed don't have them![]()
I will pick some of that loctite white pipe sealer up from Mitre 10 when I go and grab some of that Dissolve it stuff (citrus solvent) to get the sound deadening off.
chris, just so you have the right info can i suggest conversing with jon about it.
