Thumbs up ST162 down on a STEEP Hill is now BACK ON DA ROAD!!! Ya baby!

Finally up and running!! More maintenance on it this weekend!!!

OKAY IM REALLY UNHAPPY AND STRANDED, THIS IS THE SITUATION!

One of the accessories belt have snapped off, chewed itself into the Timing belt and layed itself underneth the timing belt causing it to skip. i'm not sure if the valves are warped, but from my luck, i think they will be.

I'm really left stranded at chatswood, i just paid the guy 135 for him to take a look at it... and now i dont have the cash/money to get it towed away. Its parked on a 2hour parking spot, and i'll get a ticket if i dont move it.

I'm really serious that im completely out of cash. What can i do in a situation like this? I really need some advice badly.

Plz someone contact me. To add on how bad the day was, i left my mobile at home.... so the only way you can get to me is via Email:

    [email protected]

    or my work number

    94222016

if someone can please help me on my feet, i'll be so glad. At the moment, i'm really stressed and lost.

if its just the beltt its an easy fix....just looseing the belt tensioner and sliping the new one on. my recomendations would be to buy/loan a manual for your celica there really good for helping out in situations like this. lubemobile will prob cost a fair bit to fix this, think there's like $125 call out fee, and then $35 an hour for them to work on your car.

when you could probably do it your self if you have a set of sockets/spanners and the manual.
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

If the car just stopped instantly, and the battery was fine, it could be a timing belt.

Yeah, a car wouldnt stop if a belt broke. It'd just keep going till it ran out of battery or overheated.
It'd overheat long before it ran out of battery

Where in chatswood are you? I work in chatswood at the zenith centre, for optus.

There would have to be a good reason for all the belts snapping like that, it wouldn't just happen for no reason. I would be finding out if this is the case before getting the fan belts etc done, becuase otherwise thats wasted money because you will have to get towed home.

Was the timing belt changed when it was supposed to be? What did you hear as it happened?

okay bros thanks for the input, i work at Reed-Elsevier In victoria road. The car is in EDGAR st a few min away by car. i remember hearing some funny noise b4 it all stopped, it sounded like something boiling, but the heat on the guage seemed to be fine. when i poped the bonnet, the belt was clearly gone, and theres a tare in one of the other belts around the area.

Man im really hopein it aint the Timing belt. Cause aparently the Timing belt has been changed at 100K .... and according to the seller, the engine is around about 116K or so. The odo however says 160K.....

ALSO my battery died about a week ago, so i got that replaced..... could it be that i've been runing on battery for so long? cause i know its hard to crank in the morning and that

And if the car fails to start again, it cranks normally but not start, is that to do with one of the belts? Cause someone at work just told me they can run a car for 4-5 days without the alternator belt, just as long as the battery is healthy and they dont use too much electricals.

Does it sound like it's cranking faster than normal?

When my timing belt went, I knew what it had to be instantly when I tried cranking it over because it sounded about 50% faster

well normally when i crank it, it turns on straight away, so i never had to crank it more than 1 second, but today after that incident, it still sounds like it cranks noramlly, but somehow hessitant on the first few cranks, then after a few attempts, i just gave up. But i didn't notice that the cranking was 50% faster though i hope that is a good thing. cause where it is at the moment, it is on a very steep hill. and the first time i noticed that there was something wrong was when i went down the u shape hill, and at the bottem, i changed into second, and rev was at 3-3.5K but the car wasnt gaining power, and slowing down, then ofcause it stalled when i clutched in.

for the worst possible case, if the timing belt is gone, i'll have to get it towed hey?

gen1 3sge should have 1 or 2 belts visible on the outside of the engine, one that runs the alternater and AC compressor, and the other running the power steering pump. Possibly whoever put that belt on last tightened the tensioner pulley way to tight and it snapped the belt.

Anyhow if the engine stalled but you were still getting an engine braking effect (engine slowing the car down thru the gears then the timing belt is probably fine. But it's abit suss that that belt would of broke aswell as the one connected the Alt. If you could get a socket anbd ratchet onto the main crank pulley and turn the motor over clockwise(out of gear) and see how hard it is, if it's really easy it's the valves not actuating and creating compression which most likely = timing belt probably did snap.

easy way to check if the timing belt is gone is to crank the engine with the distributor cap off. If nothing's moving, then you got no belt

Or you could take the simple more effective option of what RWDboy suggested. (dam didn't think of that one lol)

These are great ideas guys, but since im a total idiot to mechanic, i wont know how to do this. I'm at work atm, worrying and all, i dont even have a screwdriver in my car.

Question is, does the car still start if the accessory belts are gone? or does it only not start if the Timing belt is gone?
