-GT-, would small amounts of unmetered air getting into the engine effect its power? I didn't think you'd lose any power unless maybe you had a gaping hole in the plenum.

A little bit, no, it might even gain a bit by leaning out rich mixtures, but not something to play with without keeping a good eye on your mixtures.

If it is a vacuum hose, you'd be suprised how much air could get sucked in under load, definately enough to make it run like a 2-legged dog. Pull one off while it's idling to find out.

I just pulled off a vaccum hose while idling. It started spluttering and almost stalling. Thats not the problem

Nah, what i meant was that would show you how much unmetered air would interfere with the running.

Did you say its running and idling very smooth, just high idle and no power? So it doesn't sound lumpy or rough, just has no power?

Nope, sorry dude. You say you've doubled checked cam and static timing, beyond that, i dunno.

I think you need to list what you have tried and how you have tried it.

If nothing has changed either go back to the start.

    Clean/replace everything consumerable.
Check compression, fuel pressure, oil pressure light.
Then if the Cams have been fked with, that in turn means timing. On the 16v's when doing the timing you need to short two terminals.
Sideshow does the 20v's have this? If so have you bridged it when timing it correctly?

on the 20V you do have to bride TE1 and E1 when setting the timing.

If you're watching the timing mark with a light while the terminals are being bridged you will see the timing drop from around the 20-30 mark unbridged back to the 10 mark when bridged.

When unbridged, does the timing advance when the engine is revved?

Also, what are you doing with the idle to bring it down to 800rpm so you can check/set the timing correctly?

Burp the cooling system and try to de-gunk the ISCV.

I doubt an airbox will do anything but stop rocks and dust from getting into the engine. As for my fuel system, it is just the standard for the bigport 4age in an ae82, I don't know the specs. Thanks for the offer, I live 50 mins west of melbourne CBD.

Yes when unbriged, the timing advances when the engine is reved.

Idle problem may be fixed. We had a vaccum hose looping two of the steel vaccum lines together so a bit of air was bypassing the throttles causing high idle. The idle is at about 1100 now, still a bit high. We set the timing again and the power increased neglegably.

I have burped the cooling system.
There was no gunk in the iscv, it works just fine.

Yes, I swaped it today, for another one from Toyospares. It runs just the same.
